  • Should I...?

Hello all, I'm new to these forums and have played a great number of online games..
Unfortunately none of them ever had what I was looking for.. I played Ragnarok Online for a while, but then all I was ever doing was just killing things over and over again.. No storyline whatsoever.. Tried Lineage 2, got bored in a couple of days. Then I tried WoW, thinking this would be the game to rule them all.. Got up to around lvl 45, then got bored.. My daily life in there was to log on, check mail, solo grind for countless hours with absolutely nobody to talk to except some guildies, and then once in a while I would have to do deal with someone from an opposing faction. At first I thought the reason I quit WoW was because it took too long to level.. But then I realized that it was actually pretty fast, the only thing missing was a storyline of somesort and the fact that I had no body to ever talk to, no teamwork, none at all. Once in a while I would do instances, but it got hella boring, all you did was kill a group then go to the next room and kill a group. Nobody really talked at all because everybody else was using some sort of voice communication.. Then Guild was, very good game. Had a story line, and team work. But, the world was small, everything was instanced, and once you finished the story line( which is very short) all you would ever do was go farming.

Now I'm thinking about getting Final Fantasy XI.. It looks fun, it looks hard to level which Is something I dont really like, but if it involves teamwork and and hanging out w/ people then I'm ok with it. But I also have a couple of Questions..

    - Is the world huge? Like how Big is it?
-Is there a story line of some sort? ( And I don't mean something like go fetch this, or go fetch that kinda thing)
    - Do they accept prepaid visa gift cards? (I've searched many threads and they said that you do, but I'm just double checking)
    - How much would it cost monthly?
    - Must I purchase all those other things that I saw like Chains of Promathia, Rise of the Zilart, etc.
    - Are the populations large? ( The larger the better)
    - If you pay can you pay like 1 month at a time? Or does it have to be like some sort of chain?
    - I currently have about 230$ saved up, I'm going to use some of it to upgrade memory and speed of computer.. Would I have enough for the game and monthly costs?
    - I've seen some screenshots, is it just me or do everybody's arms look kinda long?

I think thats all For now..

    ~Peace out and thanks.

    Which FF Character Are You?

    Re: Should I...?

I honestly don't feel MMOs may be your thing. In the end and grand scheme of things, all MMOs become repetative until additional add ons.

I feel FFXI is a great game, and still enjoy it. But if you found it took a long time to level in WoW, I have a feeling you may despise XI's leveling system. I mean if you're in it just to test it out you may have fun, but I don't really find most MMOs too fun till you get to the thick of them

    But to answer your questions.
"- Is the world huge? Like how Big is it?"

Yes, I find it to be huge really. It's simple in design but rather big all things considered. Between that and knowing there is even more land to explore on the way I consider it big. Huge even.

"-Is there a story line of some sort? ( And I don't mean something like go fetch this, or go fetch that kinda thing)"

Compared to other MMOs, yes, it has a story. While it's not nearly as in-depth as off FFs you may be use to, it has a rather well planned out story entailing all races and nations. Though there are some "fech this, or go fetch that" kind of things too lol.

"- Do they accept prepaid visa gift cards?"

Really not sure sorry, but sure someone else can reassure it.

"- How much would it cost monthly?"

Lol I actually forget now =Q I think it's about $10.28 for standard payments. Goes up a bit per additional character you may have.

"- Must I purchase all those other things that I saw like Chains of Promathia, Rise of the Zilart, etc. "

Yes, though I think there's a newer PC version which has all three in one. Not sure how it will be for the XBOX360, but I imagine it will be one game, all the way up to TOU.

"- Are the populations large? ( The larger the better)"

I'd say there are. For how many servers there are, there's quite a few who play. Each server seems to average 2.5-5.5 thousand people on at any given time. Granted some of these people may not actually be playing, just idling, they are still in game.

"- If you pay can you pay like 1 month at a time? Or does it have to be like some sort of chain?"

Pretty sure you can pay month-to-month. But again not too sure on billing issue. Hopefully others will answer.

"- I currently have about 230$ saved up, I'm going to use some of it to upgrade memory and speed of computer.. Would I have enough for the game and monthly costs?"

Not sure, but RAM does help this game tremendously it seems.

"- I've seen some screenshots, is it just me or do everybody's arms look kinda long?"

Elvaan race and Galkas have longer arms. Humes I can sorda see being a bit longer than normal perception maybe =Q So yeah I guess so.
    ---------------------------

Not trying to turn you away from it, just don't want you to get it and be dissapointed cause it does take a lot of time to advance. PSU is coming out this year, you may want to check up on that as I think the playstyle may suit your tastes a bit more, but it won't have as much story.

      Re: Should I...?

you can ONLY pay month to month. it costs about 11 or 12 dollars a month. i'm not sure exactly how much because i got a couple extra accounts.

if teamwork is your game, then this is the game for you. there is a story, yes, but there is also a LOT of level grinding, too. the level grinding, however, is done as a group 99% of the time, and is interesting and a lot of fun. you are very involved in the other players in your group, moreso once you reach the levels where you begin to use a lot of skillchains. the first 10 levels or so are played solo, however.

yes, the world is huge. and yes, there are plenty of people playing this game.

it sounds like you may enjoy this game. give it a try^^

oh, and peoples arms being too long... um, huh? not that i've seen... all the characters look pretty cool in-game...

      any other questions?

        Re: Should I...?

Ah, ty very very much. I think I'll get it, it looks fun, and also I don't like solo grinding, but team grinding is cool. 2 More questions, lol.

        - Do I get to choose what server I play on?
        - I found Final Fantasy Vana'diel collections at Software Etc., and it says it comes w/ the original PLUS Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia, for around I think $29.99, Will that be good enough?

        ~Thank you very much all

Server is chosen not-so-randomly based on lowest population. However, if you want into a specific server (Go Odin!) you can get someone from that server to give you a World Pass. Then, every character you make will be on that server (until you use another world pass)
