  • Shadow of Colossus

God, I just had a party at one of my buds house and he brought this game. Although the game isn't concentrated too much on the battle system, the visual style was superb. I really liked the concept and the feel in it. Felt more like a movie than a game.

Thinking of getting it in fact. Does anyone here own the game? If so, what was your reaction?

Best game of 2005 for me, hands down.

I'll admit it, the last time I felt so engaged in such a beautifully created videogame was Ico...so that doesn't say much...but...BEFORE Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, the last time I felt so engaged in such a beautifully created videogame was Lunar: The Silver Star for the Sega CD.

Everything comes together so perfectly, from the superb artistic design to the music to the gameplay, to create one of the most satisfying videogame experiences of all time.

Don't think twice about not buying this game. There's enough wonder in the first playthrough to keep you satisfied for years, or at least until they make another.

My friend ruined some of the colossus (whats the plural for colossus? lol) though. Damn, I was getting a pizza upstairs and when I came back my other buds were going crazy over the last boss in the game...

There is a Japanese version of this game right? Cause I have the Japanese PS2

          "Colossi"

Yes, the game originated in Japan, and is called "Wander and the Colossus." It's developed by Sony Computer Entertainment.

            Re: Shadow of Colossus

From what I know, u have to defeat 16 colossi's. How long does it take in average to finish the game? Since you only fight the colossis and nothing else.

I'm definetly getting the game now (and rip the soundtrack)

              Re: Shadow of Colossus

Took me about 14 hours on my first playthrough, if I'm not mistaken. It really depends on if you go from Colossus to Colossus, or if you stop to smell the roses on the way.

Once you complete the game, you can unlock "hard mode" and "time attack mode" for both difficulties. Time Attack earns you special items and and armour, with specific pieces for both difficulties. In addition, there's a vast and beautiful world to explore, with special items to collect while you do so.

Don't worry, I'll be doing plenty of exploring once I get this game

                  Re: Shadow of Colossus

Of course The game did pretty well but I'd say it's generally overlooked in this day and age when GTA and Halo are king.

Just to point out (and I'm trying not to ruin anything at all), but you might be more satisfied by the ending if you play Ico first. That's all I'm going to say.

Yes it is a stunning game. I was a huge fan of Ico so I was sold when I heard it was coming out. Only 3 games that really kept my attention for 2005 were God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, and Dragon Quest VIII. I highly recommend adding this one to your game library.

Me and a friend played the beginning of dragon quest 8. It was very difficult, considering the money/resources (potions and such) were limited and the enemies hit pretty hard. Was the beginning hard for you too, and does the difficulty-factor alter throughout the game?

                        Re: Shadow of Colossus

Well DQVIII is styled after old school rpg's. In old school rpg's you weren't able to leave the area around the town you started in until you could A) lvl up your characters a few lvls, B) save up enough $$ to buy medicines for your trip, and C) equip yourself with the best armor offered in town. Now there were always those intrepid characters that would try to go it without doing these things (my son /sigh) and would find that it was a bit hard to do. LOL So really its not that the game is "hard" in the beginning, its just that its a different style than most people are used to playing. It's a lot like FFXI, you have to do the grind before you get the reward. Good luck!

I have to disagree with you on the FFXI not being a "grind" type game. If anything you go through more grind for a reward than any offline rpg.

                              Re: Shadow of Colossus

I didn't put too much time into the game after beating it the first go around due to school and other games being out :/ But I have to agree in that it was without question, one of the best games to come out last year. It's just so unique, so innovative, so .. fun? The overall style and epic feel to it is what really clenched it for me. For a game without real character developement (you don't even learn the main character's name, rather, just his horse). A game with a dungeon romping feel (go from A to B to C) it was still amazing. Each boss while similiar in the goal you must perform, was like a new puzzle each time. And you, like many others will quickly form your favorite boss fights.

The game actually doesn't end after beating as mentioned. You can go back through in time attack mode and regular story to earn additional items.
