This website will be updated periodically. The lawsuits are currently pending in the United States (in the Superior Court of California, County of San Mateo) and Canada (in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice).

so is this like a flaw in production or just a random thing that happens from time to time?

Doesn't look fake, but that is pretty stupid, sueing the company because the ps2 isn't reading discs properly, or the disk doesn't work anymore. That happened with my gamecube, it wouldn't read discs anymore, it probably also happens with DVD players, and most of the time the problem is caused by the consumer misusing the product. I guess the rumors about america is true, the richest people got rich by sueing the big companies for stupid things like that o.o

Before you make such blanket asinine statements maybe you should know what your talking about. Shortly after the PS2 was released, a vast majority of the units were unable to play the games designed for them. They also were unable to play many DVD's which was a huge selling point for the system. And then to top it off, many cd's/dvd's were damaged when in use with the unit.

So basically people went out and spent $300 on something that didn't work or didn't work the way it should. What would you do in that situation? Take it back right? WRONG! Stores would not allow you to return it most of the time and if they did take it, all you could get was another flawed unit. YAY!! So you call the company and tell them all over the internet everyone is complaining about this issue so the units are defective. With the proof staring them right in the face what do they say? No, they are not, end of story. Yes 50% or more of the units were doing the same thing but they were not defective. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!! But they did say that you could send them your unit (at your expense of course) and they would repair it (at your expense of course again!!). Wow I bought a defective product that I can't get my money back on and if I want to use it I have to pay MORE to get it to work! Yep sounds fair to me!! >.<

I bought one of these units. Slept on the sidewalk waiting for the store to open to get one! Needless to say I was extremely unhappy with the issues that followed. I still have the unit but it just takes up shelf space because its so unreliable. A $300 paper weight so to say. So you think people like us shouldn't be upset with the company because they couldn't take responsibility for the defective units until they were sued? You do? Ok I want you to take $300 of your hard earned cash right now, walk outside, stand in the middle of the street, throw the money up in the air, and walk away. There now you can say that.

exactly what I was too... When I was young I would tuined my PS1 CD all the time. And I always understand that it was my own fault for not taking good care. Never really think about it being Ps1 fault before.

I know that Sony STILL refueses to admit about Disc Read Error (DRE) even to this day! I had one of the faulty PS2's, and they fixed mine for free, even payed me back for shippin gbecause I bitched them out.... lol.

Ive waited 9 hours on the sidewalk to get mine and im just as furtunate to have " one of the 50% " that worked /shrug. I still have to laugh though, not at you who take care of your machines but at my friends who dont but then wonder why their NEW machines dont work after half a year to a year while i still have an 100% launch day original (minus the little dvd upgrade disk that came with the official remote) and it works just as good as when i got it and plugged it up for the first time.

Remember to clean your lense and keep your vents (front and back) clear of dust. Also make sure there is nothing blocking the vents so that it can have an adequate air supply.

mine wont read ps1 discs now aand it takes about 10 min to read a ps2 i should check it bc thats kinda werid plus i wanna play ff 8 again bc i want to fly ranoqok or how ever u spell it

I actually had to buy a new PS2 about 6 months ago because it stopped reading about half the games I had, especially the newer ones I had gotten. I also know plenty of people who had the same thing happen to them. Unfortunatly I sold the old one so I probably won't be able to join in the lawsuit. Then again, I don't really care about it anyway. It's just $100 (cost of the new system) and the old one never damaged my discs, it just stopped reading them.

I am curious as to how you became aware of this. After reading this post, i was checking my email, and saw a message about this referring to the same suit. what im wondering is how they knew to contact me.

I am on the Gamers Advisory Panel and you have to register your PS2's serial number so I'm sure that is how they found me. I don't know if your on the panel or not but if you sent in your warranty registration, they could be getting ahold of you through that. But its probably more of a blanket thing by finding your email on a gaming forum or such and then just emailing everyone on that forum on the outside chance you have a PS2.
