  • Rising Force Online

    http://www.codemasters.com/rfonline/news.php

Currently the #1 mmorpg in South Korea with its first expansion on the way.

Already in beta for Japan, soon to be in beta for NA/UK within the next couple months.

Although it looks very simular to Lineage 2, the impressions from beta testers say its quite different aside from the interface practically being the same.

Design looks wicked nice. Its certainly on my list to try out.

Didn't like it. The graphics are really nice, but the combat system is really lacking. You pretty much have to grind in the same area for 30 levels before the game really starts to heat up, and when it does start to heat up the timesink only gets bigger.

Err...let's see... parties, quest, missions, ENM, BCNM, etc, etc,

RF is very...linear with reports so far. Korea MMO's really like grinds, I think it's because of it's cyber cafe like style, where you want action, results, and freedom. Oh and don't forget the ganking and boasting, but anyway...

Well it can becomes like another RO, or not, probably not, as it's not really all that cute. RO had an appeal that attracted many types of people, which formed nice (if not messy) communities, and played more like a Chat room then rpg.

But anyway RF is very lineage2 like in that it's very fraction designed. If you like battles, it's may not be a bad thing.

I'll probably try out the beta if possible, mindless playing isn't bad, as long as you don't go for hours.

i'll try the beta if it's available :D
Anyway, not particularly fond of any korean games so far... like lineage and RO which they called "number 1" as well.
I love korean way of painting and modelling 3D stuff tho. just beautiful.
There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

            Tried out the JP beta.

It feels like RO except 3d, and that's not a good thing.

The camera controls are so clunky it's like a straight rip off of RO. The bad part is, it's a 3d game where RO is 2d. definite thumbs down.

Heck almost all the controls feels RO...they're not made by the same companies, but they're really not very inventive...Makes you envy ffxi's not really that great controls.

Nothing really special about it, except looking pretty. Novice level to me.

                Re: Rising Force Online

Finally tried out the jRFO beta myself...

Dunno wth the forum goers on the official site are talkin' about, this game plays alot like Lineage2 lol except without the horribly animated battle motions that L2 had.

                There's instanced dungeons like WoW.

You could complain that theres a grind, but every mmorpg has a grind, so its not like thats something relavent to complain about. The grind in this game however is MUCH lower than L2s, an honestly I would compare it to FFXI, only you can solo it easily enough.

Camera controls are loose an awkward, but then again EVERY mmorpg has bad controls after playing the amazingly finely tuned controls that WoW has.

                Has a nice map system.

There's quests that are given straight to you practically every level, an once completed you automatically are given the reward.

Theres some kinda sub class system simular to FFXIs subjob, but I havn't found a good explanation on it....

Your character's head follows your mouse pointer if its within their visible range. XD I think its cute.

The weapons an armor designs are badass. All the skills can levelup in effectiveness after you use them too (have to use them ALOT though).

Theres also a set of combat skills that you work on as you xp, very much like FFXIs combat skills, but more defined in RFO. As you get higher theres armor an equipment that starts requiring you to have certain skills at certain levels (imagine shields in FFXI that required a certain level of shield skill you needed to have before you could use them) Apparently once you get high enough you can create a hybrid character using the dual class system an the combat skill points.

I'm tempted to keep plugging away at it in order to get high enough to participate in some of the large scale pvp (200+ player battles) but the Sega GMs are banning any accounts they find that are non-japanese XD that an I don't know if i wanna burn myself out on it cause I plan on playing the english phillipine open beta for this game in a couple months with more friends....

any mmorpg + friends = fun

Its a mix of sci-fi an fantasy which is certainly fresh an interesting when you look at all the other mmorpgs on the market.

Not really, it's more like RO 3d. The grind is less then worthless and pickup system is not really inventive and more like a another RO wannabe.

Grin is even more basic then WoW, and definitelly not like the party system of ffxi. The way it's set up in beta, you randomly hit something, to see if it's decent xp. there's no real "zone" and it plays like " special -> potion->special ->special->potion"

And talk about lack of equipment... you get 1 set, every couple of levels, pretty much everyone looks the same, assuming you can see your armor, as almost everyone plays at max camara and only see the most basic of avatars.

Oh and it's a worse control system then many many mmorpgs. Probably near the bottom that I have played(as I mentioned it tried to copy RO type when it a completely different type of game) If you're not moving your mouse to death to get somewhere, you might acidently go attack someone. The forums are full of people who complain that they have to split wsad and mouse regularly, neither very good.

JPbeta can be consider a work in progress, but the fact that it's a port of the korean version, and only like 4 months from retail, it's a Novice mmorpg, very unfinish. Lack of items, lack of balance, lack of everything. At least RO stayed in beta.

Unless it's amazingly cheap to get people to try it, it will never make it in a mmorpg saturated market. Heck even guildwars is more finished and bigger then RF.

It's actually decently realistic that small korean companies have a hard time getting finished products. You can only do so much with a limited budget even if you have a talented team.

Actually theres dots next to the mobs name that tell you how difficult it is in relation to your level. You gain xp as you damage the mob, then get a bonus when its dead, which is how party xp works I'm assuming.

It doesn't really work, as the potion and skill system makes it you can fight things 13 levels above you if you wanted to.

US version might decide to raise prices significanty to be less reliant on it, but that's a drop in the bucket to many other things.

I'm not kidding when I said it's too much like RO.
