Fantasy Earth... downgraded graphics?

Wtf square?

Am i the only one thinking this game could have better graphics? I mean compare it to FFXI... shouldnt graphics be getting better instead of worse? so many jagged edges and pixelated textures... what the hell.. unless this game is like 50% done graphic wise i cant find a logical reason for this.

I think I read on a similar thread that since the game is focusing so much on massive battles with +50 players in one area, the graphics were kept lower to allow machines to run smoother and save FPS. Not 100% sure on this, but just offering up info.

That would make sense... i guess that's actually a good move, but they could make it so you can decrease the graphics or increase them.. i wish i could lower some more graphic options on FFXI, but i would also like being able to increase other aspects, game companies should think more about this i think.

the game will be a real time battle between 2 armies of 50 players. I'm not particularly fond of the style but still looks fun to play They will start an open beta on the 26th, they said they require 300kbps connecton

the video from the official site looks good. i think they're also taking a cue from WoW and not concentrating the visuals based on how many polygons and fancy shading effects there are but in the art design.

SE takes no cues from Blizzard. They seem to be returning to a more FFT look, which seems to fit the massive battles well visually and technically.

how so? i see no resemblance between that and fft. and fft didn't even have 3d chars. this does seem to be a a new conservative visual approach for square. it's similar to radiata, another square game.

I guess you could say the armors are different, but that's to be expected. If FFT were 3D the games would look very similar. They all look alike, but since FFT was out first it's the style I'd aruge they're all based on.

the new style largely depends on how the 3d models are textured. it's not something you can compare to hand drawn 2d sprites.
