  • Do We Still Love SE?

Just decided to quote something I had on a post elsewhere. I figured I'd make a new topic in the appropriate forum.

We wont need a sweet lineup when we can play FF12, which i *think* is still a PS2 game, on PS3's launch. I swear, Sony and SE are pulling some wierd Coup de etat. . . with all the mergers and what not, how much percentage does Sony own of SE?

Before merger, it was 19ish%. SE sold more stocks to Enix than Enix sold to Square, effectively making Enix the larger partner in the merger. . .so. . . that leaves me confused as fuck.

Either those cutscenes we saw were real-time PS3 (read: sarcasm) or SE is getting some sort of Killer App for buying a PS3. Everyone and their mom knows that if a Sony system launches with a Final Fantasy, it'll instantly create a niche like how Nintendo always launches with some variation of a Mario game. . . All I can do is hope, and curse myself for believing that SE is the kind-good-down to Earth company that stole me heart when I played Chrono Trigger. . . Not the maniacal dictators, who often crash FFXI because they forget how to spell "Facist" and can't access their files and who wont give Nobuo Uematsu his own masters, hence, owning his music and generally disappointing all their fans with each concurrent release. . .

I'm gonna go cry myself to sleep now.
So do we still love SE? Anyone know what the deal is with them and not releasing games? Honestly, it hurts to see Kingdom Hearts delayed *again*. It hurts to see Final Fantasy: Advent Children delayed *again*

Holy Christ, we could be watching FF:AC right now for the umpteenth time. We should have had a new Final Fantasy by now.

Anyone else have a shaken faith in SE? I played Star Ocean, which was pretty good last year. And I hear that they are working on a new RPG very similar to SO, but how do you feel about KH and FF12?

Isnt it past the point where we accept that they're pushing back deadlines to ensure *quality*? What can they possibly do? SE is one of only about 5 companies to properly utilze the Vector Units in the PS2 (Sans: FFX), so why the delays?

I'm gonna have to have laser surgery to remove those SE tatoos tomorrow.

I do.. after watching Advent Children

FF12, Kingdom Hearts II and Dirge of Cerberus have me real hopeful.

That said though the Delays really frustrate me as well.

Just like Nintendo, as long as their delays are justufied and their finished product are good i have no reason to hate them for doing their job.

Advent children will come out for sale in like...... 2 or 3 days in japan (so in my house too lol), FF12.... i am not waiting it, but the developers are the same of Vagrant Story, so anyway it will be a great game (i hope) Dirge of Cerberus.... finally a "all-Vincent" game, i will buy it even if it sucks lol, but it will not. Same for kingdom hearts, the 1 was a great adventure, the second will be cooler.
        Signature, ah!

Slumps happen. Seems like there is some internal strife with SE according to a friend in Japan. But I still love them. Watched FFVII:AC twice and I really REALLY them!! Now I just have to wait for my DVD's to arrive. ;P

Why does it matter? The games will be out eventually.

Why would I care to express my love for Square Enix at his point and time? By giving us Dragon Quest VIII and Radiata Stories while we wait for the bigguns of Kingdom Hearts 2, Final Fantasy XII, and Advent Childen. (Speaking of which, I think I must be the only person in the world who's waiting until the US DVD release to watch it.)

Well, I can't discuss upcoming games without mentioning by...bias...towards the next generation. I also love SE for staying Playstation-exclusive for the Final Fantasy series. Cross-platformism would ruin the games in terms of technological quality.

Bittorrent wont work on my schools network. So it goes without saying that I have to wait until us release. Or. . . go back home to NYC this weekend and pick one up from China Town.

Re: Do We Still Love SE?

Some times I think developers delay games because of the press it generates, as well as the heightened anticipation is creates. More and more people start talking about it, and asking about it, and people who didn't originally commit to buying it are suddenly interested.

Of course, for the rest of us who have been drooling over the same screen shots for a year, or have followed everything having to do with the game, this sucks. Like those of us who loved Kingdom Hearts, and went and bought the GBA game and weren't impressed. But played it for the story advancement, yet we're feverishly waiting for the next game, cringing at every delay we read about.

But with our complaining other people hear about the game, and become curious. Suddenly they're playing the original or other games in the series and are hooked as well. But we all know a developer would never admit to doing that...

Re: Do We Still Love SE?

                        I can just imagine it:
                        Fictional press realease from SE
"We not so regret to inform you that we are delaying Kingdom Hearts 2 yet again. No, there arent any problems with the programming or anything, we just know you really want it, and will want it even more if we play the part of the sadistic bastard and make you wait another 6 months. Our real hope is that you'll post on forums about how much you hate waiting for this game and in turn get ppl to ask why you want to play it so badly. You'll tell them how great the first one is, they'll go rent for preferably buy it, then be hooked too. Then when they're hooked and desperately awaiting the release, we'll just bump the release date back again, just so the whole process will repeat itself and we'll have even more ppl willing to shell out 60 dollars for a game it cost 5 bucks to make. The beautiful thing is that no matter how much we piss you off, and even how mad you must be to find out this is the actual reason, you're pathetic asses will still be camping outside gamestop or ebgames the night before, just so you can be one of the first to own our game when we finally quit screwing with you and ship it to stores. So, long story short it will be another 6 months before we will be releasing KH2, but you should really just prepare yourself to here this whole thing again in 4 months, when we push it back again. Why? B/c these games are more addictive than crack and there's nothing you can do about it! "

Ok, really I just wrote that b/c I'm bored at work and have nothing to do. It does remind me of halo2 though. All these false release dates kept circulating around the net till they finally said it would be in august or something and that they wouldnt give a release date until they were sure they could make it. So this give this date of some time in summer '04. But, wouldnt you know it, right before release they push it back another 3 months. Oh well, it IS worse than crack and they know we'll wait around, so not much else to do but gripe and wait and hope.

No, too complex mindgames. Business don't work like that, it's self defeating, because it's too conditional. If there's one thing, it's all about certainity, not uncertainity, They would invest in a game that made $1 profit 70% then a game $5 profit 20%.

Most likely developers get hit with management, does something that management refuses to believe can't make deadline. Stuff happens as they say.

They do intentionally delay games, or speed up productions, though, but it's mostly seasonal, or for competition purposes. Like MS trying to release halo on PS3 launch. More simply, releasing games that doesn't have much competition or during holiday season to sell better. Like how movies do it, summer and xmas being main times for block busters.

They would almost never delay games for hype, it's a double edge sword. Unpredictable, and stupid management that tries and fails don't last long in heavly competitive market like video games.
