Front Mission Online- anyone playing?

Greetings all,

Im a huge fan of the Front Mission series. Since I cant read any japanese, Ive only wandered around the official site a bit. Has anyone here played or have a friend whos playing? Id like to hear impressions on it. Im sure NA wont get a beta test for it till the new year if we're lucky

I'm actually considering importing it, but I have my hands full at the moment with the much too large list of videogames that I'm playing right now. If anything, I'll definitely hope to get in the US beta and play the US retail version when it's out.

i had a friend who imported it and it looks pretty fun. The game kinda like PSO, I don't think there's any server but instead you log in into a lounge where ppl flags for groups and form teams to do missions.

It also has a job/sub job system. There are the front line jobs, sniper jobs, etc I can't remember what they're called. Your mech changes as you change jobs too.

You have your own hanger where you keep your mechs. You can give keys to friends so they can visit it and look around.


Battle is semi first person shooter. You get to run around and use your weapons in real time. And because of that, it requires broadband, unlike FFXI. It won't even let you log on with a 56k connection. I think the game supports voice chat too. It also has a voice command (like CS) where you choose from menu setences like "attack" "shoot them" "move forward" and interestingly these commands are in english.

There are also macros. You can put the voice command in them, abilities, weapons etc similar to FFXI's.

That's pretty much all I know... supposedly there's PVP too but only when you're high enough in levels and ranks so we were unable to try it out. Once it releases on PC I definitely will give it a try.

Even so, there are many alternatives to Twitch Based Combat.

Meh, even still, I'm looking forward to playing the game and seeing how much customability you have with your Wanzer unit.

imo the first person shooter just fits well with this game. Looking forward to import it once it comes to PC.

Sadly its not on PC yet, and I dont want to get the PS2 version. I hope SE makes it so, Im a longtime FM fan.

I agree also. Can you imagine having to sit and wait for other people to make a plan etc (the came would turn into a high end Battle Chess or something ><) Though if it was turn based with perhaps some sort of time limit for decision making.
Anyway, I used to play loads of Quake so I could pick up on the fps part pretty quickly. Still very interested in the game reguardless

I think the voice command being all in english is a pretty good hint in itself.
