I don't quite agree with this, because I still say, that any game that doesn't have a controller to play, is not easy to pick up and play. I still hate most other mmorpgs, because keyboard/mouse controls are sooo annoying for any third person game! Online or not, I don't wanna be using a keyboard and mouse. I hate being hunched over my my keyboard while playing a game, especially an mmorpg, which can go for long runs. Controllers are the best, cause you can sit back and relax with it in your hand.

This... is really stupid. All of it. I play the PC version of FFXI so I can have more control over my character. In fact, when I was playing the PS2 version, I preferred the keyboard over the controller. Sure it's "easier" but it's simply idiotic and stupid to say that any game without a controller is not easy to pick up and play. You do realize you can BUY controller type devices for PCs.

World of Warcraft is not the be all of mmorpgs, so i dont friggin know why it gets so much damn praise! It's not that good! I could only stand it for the free month, but after that, no incentive to play, just like every other MMORPG besides FFXI. There are so many people that play FFXI, just by logging on, I know that to be true, yet all I ever hear about is that damned world of warcraft.
It's considered the better MMO because more people play it. It's as simple as that. You install, download a patch, create an account, login, make a character, and you're done. With FFXI, you have to create all sorts of different IDs, you have to go through POL just to get into the game, updates can take HOURS (especially the first one), and the targetting system for monsters can be a bit irksome. You always hear about WoW because more people play it, it's really as simple as that and that's how it works.

I guess thats why people feel its the uber MMO currently.
People feel this way because it's really a lot different than those other mmo's.

Basically, what grandmom said, is right. I don't want to just sit here and base my opinion about Dave Chapelle's comment on pure assumption. But it is very likely that he was paid to say it.

^^^^^ what he said. On my old computer it took me about 7 hours to finish downloading the first patch.

WoW has no learning curve, and that's why the people who play it are all pretty dumb. The kids who play WoW will defend its name to death, then turn around and complain about the exact same problems you could point out yourself. They know it's a broken game, Blizzard knows it's a broken game, but they're busy releasing a broken game in other countries. Check their forums if you want to see what I mean.

I don't know much about the return to vana'diel thing, but wasn't that made because a lot of people who left FFXI for WoW, ended up quitting WoW pretty quickly and wanting to come back to this? If it wasn't then forget I said that, it was something my RL friend had said.

I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't even played it. Do you REALLY think what you're saying is true? Of course it's not. I haven't had a single problem with WoW, probably because I have a good computer and I'm not trying to run the game on a P2 with 256mb of ram and a VooDoo graphics card with windows 95! To be perfectly honest, I have had more problems concerning graphics and network problems with FFXI than any other mmo I have ever played. I'm just going to ignore the first part of what you said since it's really just a bunch of baseless insults and assumptions.

Re: Famous people love MMORPGs too!

Maybe I missed it but were was the insult and talk down to WoW? WoW is a no brainer game, it freaking tells you step by step were to go and what to do. You don't have to think or really learn any patterns and it's puzzles are so freaking easy a monkey could solve them if it learns how to read >.>

Thats about the only challenge WoW presents is you have to know how to read, as far as recollection there is nearly none required. If it tells you to go to a zone you can look on their map and radar which practically guides you all the way to were you need.

There is no changing NPC markets like FFXI has with the conquest NPCs not really anything to add any huge degree of difficulty. The degree of difficulty it seems they were planning to be developed by the players, but seriously what degree of difficulty are you going to have with players mindlessly running and just hunting anyone they see they can hunt?

WoW is also only popular because it's initial amount of playerbase that loved the other Warcraft games just like FFXI has their playerbase and very good advertising. You know Blizzard dished out probably a few hundred million for all the advertisement in magizines, news, and review places (If my experience with marketing has taught me anything the one thing for certain is you can definatly buy off many places, and someplaces will even come to you practically paying you for them to advertise for you if it becomes well known for example the news).

Thats were I see most of WoW huge start off come from, heck I have many friends that played it they only stayed intrested for about a month then moved on. I still tease them every chance I get on them leaving that MMO so fast, even funnier they are now considering trying FFXI for the first time.

As far as MMOs the only ones I would suggest that encompasses most of the stuff I'd be intrested in doing would be Lineage, Lineage II, and FFXI. EQ most of the people I've ever met from it most have been playing it for a LONG time so they just feel at home with that MMO.

                  EDIT:

To better specify because saying "I'd be intrested" is not a good way to convey what I mean. What I mean is a game that encompasses PvP options as well as cooperative play to a get more full scale of MMO style options. At the moment those 3 games seem to encompases it the best, well see though as WoW starts to mature more how it goes.

                  EDIT AGAIN:

Just incase someone tries to point out the missions on the WoW game were it gives a simple message as a hint of what job can kill a monster or tells you which direction to go to avoid a hit. I'm sorry but those are just way to simplistic. At best all this helps is orientation and maybe expand a players vocabulary some, but not likely they'll use that vocabulary outside of the game.

Other then that WoW is decent for a starter MMORPG, to probably get players aware of what MMORPGs can be like.

Re: Famous people love MMORPGs too!

And you probably didn't even get a character on WoW past level 10. I've played a lot of MMO's, including Lineage and Lineage 2, and those are idiotic games where you wander around fighting a certain mob of monsters over and over again. It's called grinding and yes I've done a bunch of grinding before. I'm not going to sit here and turn this into a WoW vs. FFXI topic, because I've already stated my opinion on it, but oh god I really enjoy listening to people who probably haven't even played the game. Cool.

And to be perfectly honest, sitting around waiting for some elitist a**hats to invite you to a party so that you can progress in the game is idiotic. FFXI has so many flaws it's unbelievable, with the economy, with the leveling system, you can't even get into a craft without spending hordes of money on crafting materials. NO THANKS I'd rather play something that's fun where gilsellers don't monopolize the market and overrun NM spots. Seriously, farming? No thank you.

I think it's laughable that you say FFXI encompasses pvp. HAHAHA. Really, that's pretty hilarious. You probably didn't get very far into WoW at all if you can seriously say that with a straight face.

Honestly, I love FFXI. It was the second MMORPG I played, and when I first got it, it was simply amazing. The races, the job combinations, how the economy worked, everything. That could probably be because I came from playing Ragnarok Online. But in my opinion, FFXI lacks depth. Sure it's huge but the depth isn't even comparable with WoWs.

Obviously I just disagree with you on what's fun. You can think sitting around for hours waiting for a party, farming, and competing with gilsellers is fun, but I don't. Sorry.

                      1) Just the use of "elitist a**hats" gives me a good indication of why you didn't like the game. People with good reputations get into pt's np. Seems to me you must have pissed off your fair share if you couldn't get pt's easily.

                      2) Yes every MMO has flaws. Nothing is perfect. But if you couldn't figure out how to make money in FFXI, well then you didn't do your homework or didn't have good friends and a good LS. Again refer to #1 as to the reason why.

                      3) FFXI was the second MMORPG you've ever played. Yet you feel that your an expert on the subject of them. /sigh

                      4) This is definately the most entertaining remark I have heard in a long time. FFXI's quests (af, job, etc), Missions (Rank, CoP, RZ), and the entire story have more depth than 20 WoW's. While I enjoyed WoW in some aspects, one of them that was very lacking was depth.

Re: Famous people love MMORPGs too!

WoW quests boil down to simple busy work. I've played a Warrior up to level 60 on Spirestone and I can say with the utmost of authority that the game is an utter failure. Each town is exactly like the one before it, everybody has a problem only you can solve, and most of the time it's the exact same problem. Murlocs, ogres, gnolls, moonkin, etc. The class balance is horrible which is evident by the amount of complaining people do. WoW's endgame is nonexistant. Battlegrounds did nothing but add more buggy content to the game.

My biggest problem with the game is that there's NO storyline. Nothing. You can look through past Warcraft storyline by reading long and boring books scattered throughout the world, but nothing is discovered through quests.

My favorite part of the game is how the Community Managers, who try to understand the complaints of the community and fix bugs or modify classes to their liking, have abandoned their posts entirely.

                        FFXI all the way.

When I was stating PvP on my posts I was reffering Lineage and Lineage 2, with clans ruling a castle and players storming it as one feature, along with just flat out PvP, and its other variations. I was not refferencing FFXI as a PvP MMORPG I consider it a Story MMORPG in which it's story has a lot of depth. It's the whole reason I ever loved RPGs is for the stories and considering that this is an MMORPG they did incredibly well incorporating the story.

I remember playing WoW during the beta and wondering why so many people were addicted to it. It has a mostly solo basis, as far as i could see in my time of playing, and some classes are far more powerful than others. It reminds me of Risk Your Life, one class can just train all the monsters together and run around casting spells as they circle, eventually killing them off and gaining mass exp.

Many of my friends play WoW, i really cant see why. It doesnt have much of a story, the quests are all go to this place and kill this, the instances are being nerfed beyond nerfing. The only thing that i did enjoy was fishing and using the crafts in general. It was much easier than leveling crafts in this game ;p

                              I play RYL! :O

I admit, RYL has a lot of problems but it isn't PWG's fault. Youxiland wont get their act together and deliver what could be an awesome game. WoW, just like RYL, has a lot of potentional that's being completely ignored. WoW, and RYL, seemed really promising but just didn't deliver my minimum expectations.

                              Popularity does not equal quality.

RYl was good, but when i saw a mage training a bunch of orge guys and just blasting them w/o getting hurt and leveling up every min i got kinda tired of it. That was my first character, a defender, and i dont know its complete potential, but they mage class seemed so unbalanced that it kinda made the game seem dull to me. I changed to mage and did the same thing... and got bored. It took me less than half the time on Mage to get to the same level as my defender...
