That was cancelled waaaaaay back. SE slapped them on the hands. But it looked very sweet and we were really excited about it.Originally posted by FebaBut I mean I do not mind a good looking man so long as I do not have to view his penis.Originally posted by TaskmageGod I hate my periods. Seeing as how similar the fan remake is to the original, I can definately understand SE doing this. Why would people buy the original when they can play a fan made remake which looks just as good? What kind of disappoints me is that they put all that energy and effort into a remake. Why couldn't they just do their own thing?

I think another reason is pretty simple, they are avid fans of the game. I know I am. I would LOVE a remake. So a remake to them was a labor of love.Originally posted by FebaBut I mean I do not mind a good looking man so long as I do not have to view his penis.Originally posted by TaskmageGod I hate my periods. Becuase unlike working off a remake, starting something from scratch takes a lot of effort/time/money etc. Since they were working off an existing game, they didnt have to figure out story plots, map locations, character developments, hours of written dialog, game balancing, battle structure and who knows what else.
If square wanted, they should have offically spnosored the project and then buy the finish product off them pending approval and quality. That way the group gets something for thier efforts and SE can still make money by packaging it then selling it like a normal game. Of course if SE was planning on doing a Chrono Trigger remake of sorts on the PS3 then it would give them cause to stump any progress in 4th party development (fan base development i guess) of their games without permission.

Oh boy what fun that would be! I can't wait to play through another remake that's pretty lame and boring BUT HEY THE GRAPHICS ARE PRETTY COOL MAEN : ))))))
Also there is a whole new generation of gamers out there now. Many never even played the game and could enjoy playing it. The game is solid and definately worthy of a remake.Originally posted by FebaBut I mean I do not mind a good looking man so long as I do not have to view his penis.Originally posted by TaskmageGod I hate my periods. Hahahaha do you know how tired I am of seeing boring, uninspired, TIRED old game ideas being put into todays games? My point was that the effort spent was spent poorly. They should have done something unique and original, not base it off something already done.
"HELLO I CAN'T W8 TO PLAY THIS GAME I'VE ALREADY PLAYED BEFORE BUT IT HAS GOOD GRAPHICS COOLNESS."
That's wonderful that it can bring in a lot of money for SE, but only the hardcore fans are really going to care. The gaming industry needs new FRESH ideas, not remakes with OMG MIP AND ADVANCED BUMP MAPPING WITH AA x32!!!!!

this has to top one of the most asinine posts I've read lately
But, to be perfectly honest, I was extremely impressed with how good the remake looked. It wasn't some run of the mill crap you see on some Free 3d game maker, but had actual concept art and everything.
Cool thanks for you're good ideas I can't wait to play another remake ))))

Any "developer" can make a remake of some old game. What persuades the developer to do so is how big the fan base for any paticular game is. You may not know or i may be mistaken but Chrono Trigger seems to have a pretty big fan base, as big as the fan base for Xenogears(which was an incomplete game and is still well known) or almost as big as the fan base for FFVII. That is alone is more than enough reason to remake an old classic so hardcore fans can relive the story via clear visual representation and so new ones getting into RPG's can have played a classic that is still one of the greates RPG to date.

It's 20 times better to make new and original material rather than recycle old games. It's happening everywhere now and in all forms of enternetainment. What happened to originality and creativity?
Okay, from the developer's perspective, they did the remake obviously because they loved the game. But look what happened to all the work and effort. It's now all wasted.

I wouldnt say it was a waste just yet. There is no telling what impact that their efforts in the project or the community response to it could have made on SE. Truth be told, only time will tell of a possible remake for CT and or some original game from its most recent remake creators. A waste of time, probally; time enjoyed spent doing something you want to do, most definetly.

Sauhnik, I think you're missing the point here. Nobody is saying innovation isn't good. By it's very nature innovation is something to be desired. However, you are forgetting that sometimes innovation isn't readily seen or sometimes it takes backseat to some other desirable trait.
In this case, the innovation lay in translating the game to the 3rd dimension. Any innovation was in the code that would handle all the difficulties the new approach presented to help it play as similar to the original as possible. Innovation took a backseat to nostalgia.
As you know, Square games are vast in scope, and dramatic in the story told. To say the game isn't worth updating would be like saying War of the Worlds isn't worth buying, renting, or seeing in the theater because it is essentially a remake. It's like saying Charlie's Angels sucks because it draws on a TV show, or the only Bond film worth watching is the first one. Many of today's films are remakes of an earlier movie or from some other media source. Do you mean to tell me The Italian Job is a horrible film? Or that Spiderman 1 & 2, Batman Begins, The Punisher, Daredevil, or The Hulk are not worth watching? OK, so maybe The Hulk wasn't a good example, but my point stands. Remakes are worthwhile. They allow you to revisit something you once enjoyed and to appreciate not only what you loved so much the first time around, but to find something new to like, to be astonished all over again.
I hate to disappoint you, but remakes are very much a part of your life. They're called sequels. Some of them actually manage to have enough innovation to make them worth playing. Most of them suck. Besides, how many games can use bullet-time until you admit that new games don't constitute new experiences? I'm sorry, but while we agree with you on wanting innovation, your argument fails on the fact that most of your so-called new games are just ideas ripped off someone else and thrown into some exotic locale. We who support remakes though, at least we know it's the same old thing. At least we don't pretend this is something we've never seen before. A quote comes to mind--I don't know who said it--"Good authors imitate, great authors steal."
This looked like it would have been a great game. . .4 out of 3 people have a problem with fractions. . .

Sry but Daredevil and Punisher sucked : /
I never said anything about Sequels. From what I've read this game is a remake of Chrono Trigger. Which means they're not even trying to put new stuff into it. I don't care if some fanbase wants to "re-experience" the same game. The only reason someone might want to re-experience a remake is simply because it has maybe some new battle feature and oh of course ADVANCED GRAPHICS.
In this case, the innovation lay in translating the game to the 3rd dimension. Any innovation was in the code that would handle all the difficulties the new approach presented to help it play as similar to the original as possible. Innovation took a backseat to nostalgia.
Most of those movies you listed below were transferred from one form of entertainment to the movie world. Namely, the comic books. At least they added some new and different things to their movies instead of a direct copy of the old. Oh yah, and those movies weren't that good. They were pretty cool action movies and such, but none of them will compare to some of the best films made.
A quote comes to mind--I don't know who said it--"Good authors imitate, great authors steal."
Something new and original will always be better. Why not strive for that?
Remakes aren't sequels btw. Oh and if Chrono Resurrection ISN'T a remake of Chrono Trigger (i've read from several sources that it is), then disregard everything I've said.
