Yes it was but the point I was making was that the price point on systems really hasn't gone up that drastically. $199 in the 70's to $299 in 2005 is amazing.

FYI it looks like a Nov 2nd release for the 360 and the price looks like $299. 10 years since the PS and still the same price. That must be a hard one to swallow for them.
Neo geo was never a mainstreams system, just like 3do...

and saturn lol, not only did it compete directly with 32x, no one owned one till it dropped a lot.

That was why many people believed tha magical number to be 100-150.

PS was introduced at 199, not 299, and it wasn't until 150, when unit's began to fly off shelves.

Similarly most system stand on record that if you don't put it down to that range, it won't sell well. Heck even the NU64 has that problem.

Except PS2, which smashed all that right from introduction, it sold so highely, even sony people were shocked.(no matter the conspiraist cry of sony intendally limiting supply) PS2 has no real reason to even drop a cent for the longest, as surpising as it was.

Just a heads up, Final Fantasy XII is a Playstation 2 game, not a PS3 title. However, Final Fantasy XIII will most certainly end up on at least the PS3, so it's PS3 for me.

Unfortunately for my wallet, I'm deeply interested in Hironobu Sakaguchi's new games for the Xbox360, Lost Oddysey and Blue Dragon. Even after all these years, I think they have the potential of being as massively revolutionary as he made Final Fantasy.

I may be there standing in line at 4 AM to grab my Playstation 3 from Super Target, but I will definitely look to the Xbox360 for the few games that interest me. And of course, the Revolution is a no-brainer. Nintendo can do whatever crazy things they want, I'll still buy their consoles.

No kidding, speaking of, didnt the new zelda come out tuesday? I need to get my gamecube back from my friend when I get back in a week.

Most likely I'm gonna buy all three. XBOX360 for halo3, ps3 for metal gear solid, and revolution for the metroids and zeldas.

The new Zelda comes out in October, actually. It'll probably see a same day release as the Xbox360.

Since the majority of systems released between the 70's and 90's debuted at $199+ the "magical number" was more around $225.

And your wrong, the PS debuted at $299, I bought mine release day.

Edit: Ok I was going to bed when I realized I should have linked to some info about the PS, so here it is:

Notice that even the NES released at $249.

                  Fine I concede.
Though how you thought it was debut price.. I don't know. I never mention debut, introductory, start, first ebay sell, etc.

So while my hole is dug somewhat deep, you dug your own hole by being too agressive in trying to debunk something I never actually said.

None of them sold out, except the ps2, so badly in fact, it had about an 12hr window, for first shipment...and that even with bundles.

                      LOL!! {/comfort}

The line of the conversation in this thread was about debut prices of the next gen systems. So I don't think you just popped in out of the blue to compare the prices that the retroc onsoles were at one time or another. LOL

Yeah, true its shocking how much my dad paid for my families first Atari ( I think we have 7 now -.-..Garage Sales 4tw). Was almost $200 if I remember, and $20-40 per game or something...
                        ...

I personally plan on buying Xbox2 and Playstation 3. Since N64, I refuse to touch a Nintendo product other then handhelds. Nintendo lost all faith I had in them with that system. I also don't care much about the thing that seems to be their major gimmick, download our old games at a cost.

I'll be the first to admit id rather just download them illigaly for free.

On a side note, I my Neo Geo. If only they had managed to release it at a cheaper price.................................................................................................

I am sad to say I did not buy a Neo Geo when it was released. ; ; /ashamed

I hear you on Nintendo. It's like there will always be a little of my heart that belongs to Nintendo. I pocket of love that I hope one day gets ripped open with the sheer joy of a system that I can revel in. ..........ok I'm done dreaming........ LOL I might not buy the Revolution at launch. I'm still up in the air about it. I guess I'll wait and see what they have to offer in software too.

As I have done since I left the SNES for the PS, I'll follow Square (I would have gotten a Nin 64 but FFVII went to Sony). Since the majority of Square games seem to be set for the PS3, that's prob where I'll go also.

I am going with the PS3. I've seen the specs of all three systems, clearly the Xbox-360 will act more like a PC while the PS3 will act more to severe the damage between console-gaming and pc-gaming.

Besides, the PS3 has a killer start-up line. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion while a cross-platformed game, will surely do better with the PS3 than Xbox 360. I'm not willing to get an Xbox 360 unless I have a good-paying job then.

P.S. I just figured it will be possible to play FFXI on the Playstation 3 considering the PS3 IS compatible with the PS2 and PSone games and it does have a docking-bay for a HDD the same size of the PS2. I was thinking about it just nice, someone here reminded me of it.
