what games did xbox excell on? Halo? so why is it coming to the ps3? halo3 will come out on the ps3 so ive read, other than halo what does xbox have?

soulcalibur, the most coolest fighting game ever? really? you know soulcalibur is the followup of soulblade right? soulblade was originally and exclusively on the psx, soulcalibur came out on dreamcast, and it didnt save it from dieing, neither did the allmighty shenmue, so, what exclusive games does the xbox have? sure xbox360 might have good ones, along with square enix's blue dragon and lost odissey other than that the xbox360 is simply more of the same...

ps3 on the other hand has NEW technology to offer, the cell processor, the blu-ray which stores 100gb of data unlike the 25gb previous poster said it held, these 2 strong allies alone will give ps3 the crown of king of consoles

gran turismo, tekken, final fantasy, metal gear solid and devil may cry are the shiniest pearls on the ps3, sure some of those might come out on other systems, but you know who's gonna be most successful just by looking back on past releases

the ps3 controller is probably improved, people are so stupid when they say ''Ew it looks so weird! Witchcraft!" do you really think the world's best controller would get downgraded by it's creator? why would sony do that? things can only get better, people are so lame that they fear change, progress and improvement, such mentality...

plus, you can probably buy a traditional controler in due time, made by other brands, ill be using the new controllers though, they looks tons more ergonomic, the indent buttons atract me too, plus your girlfriend can enjoy it's shape (err) so its like you kill 2 rabbits with one stone o.o

Were did you hear that Halo3 would come out on the PS3??? I guess he'd be my cousin-in-law's friend? Never stated anything about Halo 3 being on PS3, i thought he made it pretty clear that it was staying with xbox and xbox 360 side. My cousin-in-law's friend actually works in the graphics department for the game, and from what he did mention he seemed to make it pretty clear it was going to be on the xbox consoles only. I am intrested to see were you got your info, maybe I the next time I get a chance to see him I can ask more about it.

Of course though just because someone works on the graphics development area doesn't mean they'll have a lot of knowledge on which consoles it goes out to, but he still seemed to have the premise that it was xbox only and no ps consoles.

As for the comment on the blu-ray discs they can achieve a maximum of 200 GB using a dual layer double sided disc. But the most they are generally shooting for (because it's more stable) is 100 GB using a dual layer double sided disc. One layer on the blu-ray disc can hold 25GB (or 50GB at a less stable setup), so the info the guy stated and you stated is both true. This is the only reason that the HD DVD disc can possibly compete with the blu-ray discs, the problem is that the HD DVD layers are 0.6mm thick and the blu-ray layers are 0.1mm thick.

This means a blu-ray disc with 4 layers will be a max of 0.4mm thick and the HD DVD competiting with the Blu-ray will be 2.4mm thick with 4 layers. Even the coating the two use are different, the HD DVD went with a thicker coating to protect the actual read layer were Blu-ray went with a new type of coating that can take some punishment from a wire bush and still read and yet still be a thiner coating. That's the major different really is how well the Blu-ray discs can punishment and remain so thin.

As far as the controller for the PS3. How good the design is, is something that's going to depend more on the button configuration. From what can be seen on the pictures of it, the controller design is still much like the previous ones would look if you smoothed out their casing and extended the grips. It's a little hard to say if the Left and Right finger buttons are well placed without a hand gripping it, the curved designed to reach those finger buttons might prove to interferre or depending on the controllers size it may greatly improve accessibility to it.

As for what the PS3 released they only released the general specs of the system which easily covers and matches the general specs that the Xbox 360 released. The difference is that the Xbox 360 specs is everything that it has to offer, were as the PS3 has still kept the interworkings and what the cell technology has to offer a secreat. The people developing the xbox 360 still have no clue of what kind of power this cell technology may possess, so they may be boasting way to soon.

The other thing to note with the Xbox360 aside from their early boasting they are also following the steps in what gave the PS2 a little bit of a flop by being late in releasing their development kits. The PS3 however, sony learned from their mistake and had thier development kits ready well before hand.

The thing that Sony does mention with the Cell technology, is they only say it's purpose is help create actual phenomena within the games or other supported entertainment media. With things like audio and video it's suppose to take them and do some sort of culturing processes to it, so they come back richer and with more unique effects.

Addressing some things that were said:

Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are not a SE games. The company that is developing them is Mistwalker.

Halo 3 is not coming out on the PS3. Facts can get misconstrued as they are passed on to others. It's possible the following information was eventually turned into "Hey Halo 3 is being released on the PS3 on launch day!" Here is the info:

FYI, they are still making games for the Dreamcast in Japan. And a few darn good ones too!

I buy every new system released and give them all a unbiased try. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that the X-box does not suck. Keep in mind I play my PS2 more often than my X-box but I can still keep an open mind and say the system is a good one. Bad systems don't last long and after years on the market they are in the clearance bin for a fraction of the cost. And its very unlikely there will be a number two out after it. Is the X-box in the clearance bin? Nope. Is it clearance priced? Nope, same price as its biggest competitor. Is there going to be another? Yep, the 360 is on the horizon. So armed with all the FACTS and not feelings, the X-box is a successful and competitive system that is providing good entertainment for millions of people. Two million on Live alone. Millions of people would not continue to support a system that sucks.

As far as exclusive games, here are the ones I could think of off the top of my head. Panzer Dragoon Orta, Knights of the Old Republic I & II, Jade Empire, Mech Assualt, Fable, Sudeki, Project Gotham Racing, Halo I & II, Unreal Championship 2, and Forza Motorsport. While these may not be your type of games, you do not represent the majority of gamers. Many of these games were in the Top Ten at one point or another. A system that "sucks" doesn't get games in the Top Ten because the developers don't support a bad system. Last Top Ten I checked (believe it was for last month), the X-box had 4 in it, PS2 had 4, and GC had 2. So much for sucking.

Some games from XBOX360 interest me(some from XBOX aswell, but this thread is about the next gen systems, so lets not go there too much) but there are also many games for PS3 that interest me aswell, and the thought of the PS2's massive gaming library to be compatible with PS3 is awsome

So regardless if I had to choose, me being a video gamer I would have to go with the PS3. The XBOX360 will be superior for awhile until its rivals are released, but non the less if Microsoft can't get more developers, enough to overwhelm Sony's , and find ways to combat the PS3 (if the XBOX had trouble trying to be number 1, and failed to the PS2 which is years older technologically wise, console wise, and market wise. I highly doubt the new XBOX360 will win against the PS2's successor the PS3.

Now you present a very good theory, that owning all the systems would combat your decisions on what games you want to enjoy or have, that depends on the consumer though, and currently in this day and age, consumers want to get the most for their money, buying all systems and games they want for those systems, would be overwhelmingly expensive. Thats we have consoles that are sold more than others, because consumers know that being selective with just one console will better benefit its entire community, which will then be reflected on the games developed for it, and other features being advanced resulting in the most advantages for the consumer of that product.

Sony's PS3 also boasts more multimedia features, and advances than the XBOX360, some features that probably are not even a reality yet, not until a few more years, so already the PS3 is looking ahead at ways to keep its PS3 alive. Such as the ability to split data into 2 large screens, similar to the technology we see in the Nintendo DS, except for the PS3 to allow you to do something similar with Screens of your own such as LCD monitors, expensive to do now, but in teh future more affordable and realistic) Also the PS3 is fully backed with the PSP(used as a screen for menus or controller for PS3 etc...), something simular to the GBA and the Gamecube, but the XBOX360 has no portable handheld device at all at the moment, so it loses that possible feature.

XBOX live is something for XBOX and XBOX360, but already there is something similar being developed for the PS3, so you no longer can use that as an advantage for the XBOX360, because the PS3 will have a similar system as well so it evens out in that area.

Hopefully Sony will support the HDD immensely worldwide and not just for their Japanese Consumers as we have seen with the PS2. This would help the PS3 more, because the XBOX360 should be similar to its XBOX with support for HDD to do many things that only Japanese consumers were able to do with their PS2's months before XBOX was even released. Things such as ability to hook up digital cameras to ps2's USB ports and view and manage photos on your screen, ability to burn and copy music cds to HDD and play them back etc. ,copy full dvd movies, copy video camera files from camera to ps2 etc. All these things Japanese PS2 consumers can do and have been doing since summer of 2002, with their publishers supporting the HDD in almost every game produced thereafter(theres what like 10 games for NA/EU PS2 that support the HDD, wow thats like 1% of the game archive for us)

I don't know for sure if the XBOX can do all of those things, but Since the PS2 (at least the Japanese PS2) can and has been before the XBOX was even released, I sure hope it is supported again with the PS3 and even more features, and not just JP side, but Worldwide, NA and EU PS3 versions.

I won't get into the "ooo mine has more" or "mine are better" garbage, because thats exactly what it is. More is not always better. There are plenty of stinkers on both sides of the fence. The entire point of the new systems is to have new things to play and more entertainment for everyone. Things change, its just the way life is.

I understand if others can not afford to feed their "habit" like I can and I respect that. I don't respect it though when just because they can't have the option they decide to say "OMGZORZ that systems SUX!1!!" It's totally asinine. If the system is selling in the millions, people are enjoying its games, and not in the clearance bin, it must be doing something right. For pete's sake, can anyone be objective anymore? I've never stated once that any system was gonna win the system wars or was better than another or had better games...blah blah blah. My entire point is that ALL the systems are good! And by all of them being good, we as the gamer benefit. We have selection! We have competition! We have choice! More systems and more games mean more people end up satisfied. They want to beat out their competition, and in doing so they hurt other gamer's entertainment because of it. Yes you are correct, please forgive my mis intrepretation on that part and the others such as your conversation with the RDM guy. Grandmom is just stating that buying all the consoles benefits you the most because you are getting everything that all the companys are doing for their console and not just what one console has to offer.

You also mention that the "new systems" will be outdated in a few years, that is not really true, because if you know anything about cell technology, it is actually something that works against what you are stating, it will , in years to come, be updated and current with PC's and other technologies.

Companies are in it for $$$ and thats all. The only reason they care about anything a gamer has to say is if they don't put out the games and features that a gamer wants, then it won't sell and no $$ for them. Thats why so many systems upon release (recently) have so many similar features. They do listen but they have selective hearing, must be the $$ floating around in their heads. LOL So as long as there is competition, we will get some of what we want.

So there will never be a time when all games can be played on all systems. Why make a system then? The other guy has it covered and whats the draw for someone to buy yours? Systems would have to evolve into something more than video game systems then. Maybe play different formats of videos, music, maybe have web browser capabilitites,....oh wait...thats a computer isn't it? So ya, it will never happen. They will always try to get exclusive games to entice people to buy their system over any other because in the end $$$ in their pocket is all that matters. Many games are now released for more than one console. Maybe not at the same time, but eventually. Or sequels will come out on multiple consoles too. So the "hurt" is minimal. If the trend escalates then, yes, it could be hurtful to more. But the problem with that is developers want $$ too and putting out their game on more than one console = more $$ usually. So its doubtful that this trend will blossom and become common practice anytime soon. There will always be the "haves" and the "have nots" but that doesn't mean there should be one system or games should be playable on all systems. It would squelch the innovation.
