whelp, the game is out now. Anyone playing it/switching? It looks nice, but I was gonna hold off on it until it got a few expansions under it's belt.

I was in Closed and Open beta for it.

It is a decent hack and slash MMORPG. It plays like a fully rendered 3D Diablo... with alot more customization. I would hold off though... Like you said, it needs a few expansions before it becomes truly awesome.

But I must say... the battles in Guild Wars are amazing!

I think I hear of it a few days ago and I must admit it looks really neet. I love the Necro's image ^^ But I wouldnt switch out final!!

I just picked it up and I like it. I wouldn't say I'm doing a complete switch though. It's free to play online... so I will just play it whenever and keep playing FFXI.

Hey Guys,

Just an FYI. I originally quit FFXI to play WoW. That of course is getting a bit old so I decided to try GW. Let me tell you this game is incredible.

GW is different from most online games because the cap is only lvl 20. So the PvE side is kind of short, but you need to grind out missions to get better skill, armor, and weapons.

The game strives on its PvP. Its gladiator style 4 vs 4, 6 vs 6, where it is a fast paced action brawl. The fighting is so fluent that the battles are very intense and fun. This is by far the best experience I've had with an online game.

Its no monthly cost so you can pick it up and play whenever, that is whyI originally got it. Now im hooked. Any more questions let me know.

I had bought this too... got burnt out on it already. So back to FFXI exclusively for me. I just like FF better... GW is just not for me I guess.

I have finally determined I will get the game now that they have worked out alot of the bugs + some of my friends play. So... Ranger/Monk ... here I come!

I got the game and stopped playing FFXI to play it when it first came out. Few feeks later I went back to FFXI, haven't played GW since.

Heard mixed things about GW, it's design definatly doesn't focus on level much at all. Its the first MMORPG I've heard that actually gives each action a certain appearance and has actual counters you go an find to each. With it's pace it really comes to a point were it's players skill to reconize an action and counter it with a wide range of possible identifiers to give an action away.

For a PvP style and even an PvE style that sort of aspect to the game does seem intresting.

Well here is a simple - basic - no nonsense review about it.

Guild Wars is a decent game that accurately depics battle the way it should be, fast paced and action packed. Each time you go into a zone, you are given the entire zone to yourself (and your group if you have one). Which means... no camps for monsters... no worry about no finding a good spot to level up. Its run and slash the entire way. You run around and hack up anything that moves. The A.I. in this game is great. Some of the best I have ever seen done for this type of game. Guild Wars holds the option of using NPCs for party members. At first this turned be off completely... but once I tried it... I now prefer NPCs over most human players. The A.I. of the NPCs are dead on accurate and know what their priorities are. They are willing to keep you alive at the risk of killing themselves... its great! The NPCs will follow you anywhere and everywhere you go in the zone - always watching your back. If you get a link from behind... they will take control over the 2nd monster and help you out. The game does ALOT of things right. But... There is no real grind of lvling up. The only real "hardcore" thing about this game is the PvP. I tend to think of Guild Wars as a glorified Unreal Tournament with the RPG Mod installed. I mean, you beat Unreal Tournament... whats left? play again??? No, you take your skills online and frag people over the net. Just like Guild Wars... once you have taken a character through the missions and storyline. The only thing left to do is to enhance your abilities and try your hand in PvP.

This is a great game if you do not want a hardcore game that requires hours of your time just to level up and gain new abilities. The customization is awesome. The graphics are top-notch. And for a No Monthly Fee "Online RPG" .... what else could you expect?

As an older gamer, I find it interesting to watch the evolution of gaming. I remember the days when games were harder, getting lost in dungeons for hours and dying. Since you had not saved in a while, you went all the way back. I was much more liberal with my cursing back in those days. LOL I see a trend towards making games (both PC and console) that are easier on the player. More save points, less time involved in getting some satisfaction from it, and a shorter length. Now I'm not saying this is a bad thing on a whole, but at times it is. We pay good money for games and to have them "dummied" down and shortened makes me feel like I'm getting ripped off.

I'm glad that there are games being made to appeal to more people. I happy to see gaming be a more accepted medium. I just hope with all my heart that along the way we don't lose sight of the big picture. How fulfilling gaming can be, how entertaining it can be, and how it can challenge us and make us swear at a digital character! LOL

LMAO Right on GrandMom! My dad laughs at me all the time when I call Wakka a dumbass when playing Final Fantasy X lol . I know its a digital character and hes not real... and no, he cant hear me. But still!! I t makes me feel good inside ;-)
