VI.
Tactics.
VI.
Tactics.
VI.
Tactics.
I can't decide!
Well, yes I can. I adore Tactics. Love it to death. But VI is and ever shall probably be my favorite. It is because of FF VI, and specifically Celes, who is probably my favorite character in any FF game, that my linkshell is called the Rune Knights.
For me, the thing that sets both VI and Tactics apart is the degree to which I came to care about, even love, the characters. In VI, to have so many playable characters in the game, each with their own fully-developed story, is quite an accomplishment... the fact that I have a hard time choosing characters to form parties in that game is a testament to just how much the characters have come to life for me in that game.
Some have accused FF VI of being formulaic, or even cliche... but those people forget, it was FF VI upon which those formulae and cliches were built. It is an epic story, with triumph and tragedy, love and hate, joy and suffering. And when I tire of the oh-so-pretty but shallow nonsense that is so often foisted on gamers these days, it is FF VI to which I turn to bring me back.
As for Tactics... well, I can't really explain that one. You have to play it to understand.
This is not to say all new games are bad. I liked FF9, am still working on FFX (didn't get it until recently, and have trouble dragging myself away from XI to play it). And Knights of the Old Republic is a great game if you like Star Wars.
But FF VI is and probably will ever be my favorite FF game. Though XII looks like it might have some potential. We'll have to see, won't we?Stormwalker

I have played VI All the way through to XI
Out of them.. I would say FFVIII had the best storyline, Not sure what it was.. But over-all I think it had the best one xD
It's hard though.. FFVI had best battle system.. FFIX actually made sense.. FFX had a cool ending.. FFX-2 was generally strange..
FFVIII o.O

I'll have to say FFX, with FFX-2 coming in at 2nd. FFX was pretty much the first FF I ever played. My brother has most of the other ones though. I tried playing FFVIII, but I just couldn't get used to the graphics. FFX's storyline was awesome though. Gotta love the ending (even though it's sad). The ending theme kicks butt too!

The best story-telling per se, is by far Final Fantasy X, it is just very detailed and emotional.
However I liked the "settings" for Final Fantasy IV, VII, and VIII more. Even though their storylines were more primitive. VII for example, had an awesome world.

Although Kefka is considered by many to be the top villian of all FF games I feel inclined to point out that although i hated Kefka by the end of the game, I friggen LOATHED Delita.
sooo... I'd have to go with FFT. Mature story, plenty of things to do to keep you busy, wonderful character development (even if they weren't actual "characters" you still felt like you watched your hired hands grow
) and of course the repulsive King Delita who ultimately not only succeeds with his plans but gets away with it in the end.
If you doubt my strength step forth and test my blade. As long as I live you will never defeat the samurai...

VII had the best one because the plot kinda starts as one thing and then suddenly becomes something entirely different.
VI comes second because...I guess spoilers are allowed in this thread. Because the world got so nicely messed up and everything became quite complicated.
