I hope not...If so they might aswell call it FFT2 don't you think?
I can see why there won't be much of a love story...Judging from the way Van dresses i can tell he does'nt like the ladies.
Bangaas....Does this mean Moogles exist here aswell?
Sometimes i wonder why they constantly feel the need to change FF....Am i the only one enjoyed the ATB in FF6 and FF10-2?
I just hope they don't use the FF10 battle and sphere grid system ever again. Bored me outta of my mind..

They've already said the battle system, like most of the game's aspects, will be a drastic change from the norm, much like the return to the original character styles of Final Fantasy IX.

      Update!

Only 2 days left until we get all the information we want! But until then, here are some interesting tidbits from Yasumi Mitsuno (thanks to the-magicbox.com)

-The game will be on 2 DVDs (first PS2 game to encompass 2 discs)
-The world map will return. (this time it'll be "huge.")
-the style (visual and gameplay-wise) will resemble Vagrant Story
-there will be very few romance elements
-"many people will be suprised: 'this is Final Fantasy?'"

      sounds...interesting...can't wait!

I don't see a problem with FFX's battles or sphere grids. Battles? Whats wrong with the battles? You can change characters in-battles? Monsters are weak to certain attacks? I can see how some might not like the Sphere Grid, however... it requires thinking.

            Yes.

-there will be very few romance elements
            Yes!

-the style (visual and gameplay-wise) will resemble Vagrant Story
            ...Dammit. -_-

The story takes place in the world called Ivalice (the same world in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance). In the Valentia continent, a military nation Arcadia Empire and the Rozaria Imperium from the rear continent Ordalia have engaged in wars for many years. One day Arcadia begins to attack the small country Dalmaska Kingdom, which is in the center between the Valentia and Ordalia continents.
So this is the same Ivalice as in tactics advance?.....................................................MOOGLES!!!
            Ahem...Heh.

wow... the website is up.. and the graphics look great, the character designs have been better though (in my opinion) >_> what does the prologue say? I don't know that much japanese so I don't know. but everything looks to be good. As long as there are moogles, chocobos, cid, a hugs world, great graphics, great story and gameplay then it is a FF to me. :p well, let me know. I can't wait for this game! XD but it being related to FFTA? that's alittle weird... looks like I better start playing FFTA again

                Ivalice again?

I was looking at the artwork thats been shown so for and the first thing that hit me was, "FFTA all over again??". I came here to look at the thread and found out that it was FFTA all over gain. Not that im dissapointed, im still FF to the core, but its interesting that they are using the same world. FF-2 and FFXII are now both "sequels" to another FF. Has Sqaure-enix finally ran out of ideas? Anyway, sounds exiciting.

And you can see every race except moogle in those pictures. Plus, the ... rudder?...of the airship has an interesting resemblance to the sword that Marche always holds in the pics of him...that rounded crystal one. Anyone else notice it?

                  ULTRA UPDATE!

FFXII was unveiled TODAY. ^^ looks great! i shall go thru a little rundown...

                  The Team
Producer: Yasumi Mitsuno (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics)
Character Designs/3D Map Director: Akihiko Yoshida (Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battle)
Background Designs: Isamu Kamikokuryou (Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X)
Animation Director: Hideo Minaba (Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy IX)
Music: Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy I-XI), Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre)

Final Fantasy XII, the first traditional release in the series in 2 years, takes place in Ivalice, the same world as the Final Fantasy Tactics series. In a region called Damaska, the Arcadian Empire has taken over and is oppressing the country's people. Damaska lies next to Ordalia, the home country of Final Fantasy Tactics' characters. The game will feature the many races of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, but no information has been released regarding any others than the Humes.

Unlike the Tactics Series, a heavy deal of story focuses around the great Airships of Ivalice.

The hero of Final Fantasy XII, Vaan, is a 17 year old Hume. Born under the restrictive rule of his world, Vaan hopes to one day become an airship pirate and escape the Empire.

The game's heroine, the beautiful princess Ashe, is a 19 year old Hume. Daughter to the recently murdered King of Ivalice, Ashe has formed a resistance to one day overtake the evil Empire.

Vaan and Ashe meet thanks to the resistance group; Mitsuno has previously stated that there is very little or no romantic affiliation between the two main characters. One major difference is the fact that Ashe, unlike her predecessors in previous Final Fantasy games, is a much more aggressive character, and is a melee fighter, not a healer or summoner.

Many fans may remember the villains of the game, the Judges, from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Now an evil terrorist group known as the Knights of Terror, the Judges may work alongside the Empire to help bring horror and atrocities to the people of Ivalice.

Interestingly enough, Final Fantasy XII's engine uses half as many polygons as Final Fantasy X. Thanks to advances shading and whatnot (i'm no good with this stuff), models can be given highly lifelike qualities without using more and more polygons, which can slow down framerates and lessen the lifelike quality of character animation.

In the other games since VII, real-time character models have been designed before those of FMV scenes. This allows for the FMV models to better resemble the real-time models. (In X, there was a hugely noticeable difference between the real-time models and FMV-models, thanks to design.)

Suprisingly enough, the character designs are very different to the classical-looking designs of the Tactics series. A new style of design unknown to Final Fantasy has been created, mixing different Asian styles (referred to character designer
Akihiko Yoshida as a mix of Japanese and Middle Eastern design). This is definitely seen in Vaan's clothing, which looks similar to Middle Eastern dress.

Creature models, such as Chocobos, also look very ferocious, reflecting the drastic change in mood since previous games. Mitsuno even commented that early designs of Moogles, which haven't been revealed yet, looked "scary." Other creature designs such as the Bhaanga's should be released soon.

That's all for today ^^ enjoy these screenshots.

umm, yeah i kinda forgot to mention that Final Fantasy XII will be released in Japan in Summer 2004.

The Magic Box (the-magicbox.com) has the official video of the Press Release. IGN (ps2.ign.com) stated that they were not allowed to film it, but they did, however, take a few pictures of what they saw. They're low quality, but there are some images from the trailer that you can't find anywhere else. Other than that, RPGfan (rpgfan.com) has a few pics, as does Gamespot (gamespot.com).

Square Enix now updates information on even their Japanese releases in their US website, so there will of course be some official information at square-enix-usa.com
