It's not that I hate sports, but rather that my preferred sport is Street Fighter. I watched Evo this year and it all just sort of clicked into place as "Oh! That's why people watch football. They're getting the same thing out of that that I am getting out of watching these high level Street Fighter matches with commentary".

Speaking of superior games as a way of understanding lesser ones, I never really got why anyone would be interested in about sports in a newspaper if they had access to literally any other form of reception, until I saw Japanese and Chinese papers running coverage of Go games. Obviously Go can be notated very clearly like chess, but in a way, the significant portions of other games can also be notated, though through an informal and highly variable set of terminology. I can see how a paragraph describing a play could accurately reflect the relevant portions of the game, even making things clearer than in other forms of media.

Also being serious, my eldest sister won £500 (about $820) on putting £10 (about $16) on a 50-1 bet that first point would be a Safety. Funnily enough there are two running things with my eldest sister and betting:

• If she bets on the first points being a Safety, it will be a Safety.
• If she bets on a Horse, it will end up dying during or shortly after the race.
