Re: Greetings from an old knucklehead!

Garchomp is still stupidly fast and strong but it has a lot more counters in Generation V which is why it's no longer banned from Standard play. Skarmory and Bronzong basically can switch in to anything a Garchomp can throw out. Steels types in general just wall it since it doesn't get any useful Fire attacks so Scizor, Heatren, Forretress, Jirachi and Ferrothorn can all switch in and take an Outrage or Earthquake and either cripple it or counter it. Other Dragon Types can easily one shot it, especially Latios/Latias and Scarfed Salamence etc etc. Defensive Gliscor can switch in on CHoice-Locked Earthquakes and set up for free.

Mamoswine is the best Garchomp counter though because its Ice Shard hits like a truck and will always one shot a Garchomp before it can act.

Oh good. Also is there a Deathkarps? I always thought people modded those things....being hit with a fucking hyper beam from something that splashes is not all that amusing. Also the way I play is with stacking status effects. I don't do field set ups. More or less I like doing the following. This is my old team.

Sable Eye > Curse > Confusion > Dark Ball
Gardevoir > Hypnosis > Mean Look > Switch out
Politoad > Perish Song > Switch out.
Gengar > Dream Eater > Rinse wash repeat.

Usually if you're not dead from Curse or struggling to survive from an onslaught of psychic attacks I usually try to keep on the offensive. I don't remember...if Mean Look can be avoided with Substitute.

Not on Showdown. It will refuse to let anyone in with Pokemon illegal in the game type you are trying to play.

IIRC it does have "Hacked Pokemon Games" where anything goes but you won't run into that in Rated Battles since you have to physically challenge someone to one.

Re: Greetings from an old knucklehead!

Generation V added so many powerhouses that Garchomp is no longer ludicrous by comparison. Although, a big part of Garchomp's fall back to OU is that they banned Sand Veil.

Re: Greetings from an old knucklehead!

Plus they added attacks to older Pokemon that can reliably take down a Garchomp. Garchomp is still a major threat but it isn't completely game breaking like it used to. Still it, like Tyranitar is one Pokemon you should always expect to come across and prepare for. They are the main reason why Ice and Fighting type moves respectively are taken on teams.

Does the....Protect/Endure combo still work or is that gone? Survive using Endure and then faceroll everyone else.

Most teams will have at least one priority move user and/or damaging weather, so Endure + Reversal works less often than not.

You can pull it off but it is very difficult now.
