Re: Melody's Melodramatic Meltdown on Kim-Jong Un

claims of the KPA's size rest on their "reserve" troops, which include a third of the population of the entire country. A landwar would be troublesome, of course, but unless they intended to fight with sticks and stones, they would still be short on equipment-- not to mention food, medicine, and other vital requirements just to have an army that can even stand up to fight. Their equipment, incidentally, is mostly WWII and cold war materiel. Besides how far behind their military is in everything except future corpses, there's also the issue of them being pretty much doomed to go up against at least two foreign states (the US and Korea), as well as quite a few other regional powers who may get involved (China, Russia, Japan; any one of those alone would be bad for the DPRK), plus NATO...

the ironic part being that North Korea would actually be promoting America's image as World Cop, and justifying it.

Also, you do realize that the citizens didn't really get much choice in the matter of their "dear leader"; there was kind of a long period of Japanese rule, followed by the Soviets unloading Kim the first on them. North Korea's "civil war" didn't come out of a peaceful Korea, it came out of a post-war divided Korea, with two independent governments (like East and West Germany) in conflict with each other. Also, that was in 1945. Think about how old your grandparents were in 1945, and see if you think that you should be responsible for the decisions made back then.

I think it's important to note that pre-Gulf War Iraq also had upwards of 1 million troops. That doesn't seem to have helped them, and their level of technology under Hussein was roughly equal to what North Korea has, plus the Iraqis were fighting on mostly home turf.

Granted, NK is "probably" somewhat closer to an actual nuke than Iraq was, but seeing how no one is interested in helping them get there, I doubt they actually have working tech (or if they do, it's as likely to blow them up instead of whoever they're aiming it at).

I know on an ethical level, it's horrible to think it but... I can't help but think that would be for the best...

If you're going to post something in support of an argument, you can try a bit harder than a foul-mouthed racist airbreather, particularly when it's posted with no commentary other than a NSFW warning.

Seriously, that video contributed *nothing* to the topic at hand and wasn't even remotely funny, just ignorant and offensive.

w/e. But seriously, that video was garbage and I refuse to give that brand of ignorance hits on YouTube, particularly when it doesn't pass the standards for this forum.

                      That much I agree with.

I just think that "airbreather" is an amusing insult. Like, something that a Merfolk would use to belittle an Elf (as a retort to the Elf's own belittling of the Merfolk, naturally).

Re: Melody's Melodramatic Meltdown on Kim-Jong Un

In all honesty, Iraq was in a much better position than NK is. NK having nuclear weapons I would count as a detriment... they're very simplistic ones, and likely very few in number, which wouldn't practically aid them, but would serve to increase opposition to them, and encourage their enemies to take them down even faster and with more force (as well as justify the deployment of a far more capable nuclear arsenal

For comparison, the known nuclear detonations in North Korea have been estimated at less than half as powerful as the hiroshima blast. I have no idea if there's any actual information about the device (I doubt it), but I think it can also be assumed to be fairly bulky-- the DPRK has enough of an issue launching missles at all, let alone anything with a payload. These weapons could well be completely and totally impossible to move to any practical deployment position. The US, on the other hand, has the very portable and adaptable B61, by the hundreds, with over 40 times the capacity in a single blast...

In a conventional war, North Korea would be dead fast. In a nuclear war, faster.

About the one thing that would really cause issues would be pockets of brainwashed resistance, but I think Post-WWII Japan did a pretty good job of showing how that would go, culturally, when you get the head out of the ass. Even if someone wanted to form a Juche Taliban, they'd be kinda screwed by the lack of food, and lack of overseas fundamentalists who want to fund their efforts.

I would pity the civilians if they hadn't willingly followed their "grand leader" back during the civil war to found that bullshit nation in the first place - Hitler had a silver tongue too.

But yeah you're basically re-iterating my point - the world's 2 biggest economies aren't about to let WW3 break out over 1 rogue asshat of a "Country".

It's been stated as fact that if pressured, South Korea would destroy North Korea in a war, it wouldn't even be close...
