I believe they promised that if Israel attempted an invasion it would be akin to opening the gates of hell, but Isreal has proven they don't need to put a boot on the ground to impose themselves. They can bomb essential targets, bomb their infrastructure, and then let them starve without putting a single soldier in harm's way.
Either way, I side with Israel. The way I see it, the Gaza Strip, Syria, Iran, and anybody who associates with them have handed Israel a diplomatic blank check. Israel's biggest challenge isn't overcoming some enemy force, but in deciding how much restraint to use when rooting them out and destroying them.
Israeli airstrike kills Hamas commander in Gaza Strip
Ahmed Jabari, the commander of the military wing of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City, Hamas officials said.
Israel confirmed the killing, which it said marked the "beginning" of an operation that apparently comes in retaliation for a recent wave of heavy rocket fire from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Jabari, long wanted by Israel, is the most senior Hamas official to be killed since Israeli forces invaded Gaza four years ago.

Israel is as much to be faulted as anyone of these bad actors. The problem goes beyond just Iran at this point. Russia has vested interests in the region and with Putin at the helm I wouldn't want to push the wrong buttons. So, no, I don't think America should have to apologize for every single thing that Israel gets itself involved in, whether or not they were at fault. I'd sooner America just turn their backs to the Middle East completely and focus on the festering flash point known as the "South China Sea". Lest we forget, Israel has nukes, they can go defend themselves.
Hamas is terrible because they're stupid. Israel is terrible because they're evil.
Israel is a lot like America, only whereas in America it's far right wing Christaliban that's displaced the country so we now look at centrist politics as "far left wing", in Israel, it's essentially the same thing, only with Judaism.
Still, given the choice, I always side with stupid over evil. It's a lot easier to fix.
Guys, I'm all for the discussion of important issues, but this thread is going off the rails and into the canyon at an unprecedented pace. From the responses so far it doesn't seem to me that this is a subject that can be discussed coolly and respectfully, but if you want to try again very carefully in a new thread, good luck to you. This thread, however, is at its end.
