I seem to recall that movie actually did have Leonard Nimoy.

Yeah, original timeline Spock, or Spock Prime as the credits list him. That Trek movie passed the torch much better than Crystal Skull did.

Also, I didn't know there were plans for a live action Cowboy Bebop. I suppose I could see it. Its a fairly modern setting even though there's space travel. Maybe Bruce Willis or Hugh Jackman as Jet Black, I guess Reeves works as Spike, Faye and Ed I'm drawing a blank on, though. They could just make it about a super-smart welsh corgi since they have Ein.

Seems like that one is out in pre-production limbo like Ghost in the Shell's live action movie, though.

Canadian or not, Bioware's universe is far better thought out (overall) and has a much more mature tone about it. Sorry, but the Jedi are just silly little twats - not to mention war criminals in total denial who must do some truly astounding mental juggling to justify some of the shit they've done. If this were even remotely true, we'd have seen more of the Asari and Turian homeworlds than we did, along with the Hanar, Drell, Elcor, Batarians, Volus and Vorcha. ME3 had this terrible idea of introducing a Jango Fett that was first established in the novels which most people didn't read and did nothing to make him feel like anything but an annoying prick when he becomes a plot device in ME3. For all of Halo's McGuffins and deus ex machina it knows well enough that the novels are for lore building and not for essential character development.

Then there's the Illusive Man, who's built up as The Smoking Man of ME. He's handled superbly in ME2, he's a glorious bastard and the best Bioware could do with him in ME3 was make him fall like Saren fell. This on top the fact they spend all this time and in-game lore on indoctrination to just throw it away like it doesn't count with Shepard. Oh and suddenly the struggle was against man and machine, but none of the games ever give you the option to keep your hands clean of the genocide of anything, really.

And we're supposed to have to gender presentations of Shepard. One is a man and the other is a man with boobs. FemShep does not socialized differently from BroShep. She has a better actress, but everything she says - word for word - is what BroShep would say. I realize Bioware wants to present a world where men and women are treated as equals and that's nifty but men and women socialize differently regardless.

Back in Deus Ex: Invisible War, your gender affected certain character interactions and that made the story experience different. FemC in Persona 3 Portable has totally different social circles and even girl's nights out kinds of excursions the original MC did not have as a guy. And even in Dragon Age: Origins and KOTOR this is the case, which is a bit part of why I hate Dragon Age 2's abandonment of race and the homogenizing of the human race with it. Your race and gender were factored into the narrative. ME takes this weak-ass one-size-fits-all approach and has the audacity to tell me I'm given a choice, now the DA franchise has the same exact problem.

Star Wars might not be perfect, but it is not this woefully inconsistent with itself. Han and Leia make a great couple because they come from different social classes, from different sides of a conflict, ohe's pompus the other a womanizer, there's just all these layers that make them great characters to have talk and bicker at each other. When you think about it, almost everyone else has to play the referee with them - Luke, Chewbacca and the droids, too.

Don't even get me started on Biotics. The way they handwave the science away on that is worse than Star Wars explaining The Force with midochlorians.

All things considered I'd say Bioware did a decent enough job fleshing things out, and there's several things to consider:

- DVDs suck
- EA sucks
- There is definitely an MMO on the way
- ME4 is also on the way
- Star Wars has been around a lot longer (I maintain that the books are far more interesting than any of the hack nonsense Lucas wrote).


I've got hopes for the new game coming out, because it's supposed to be the first real Mature rated SW game. But I'm still rather disenfranchised with SW as a whole. I like the tone, settings, and the aliens etc. a lot more in ME. It's also the only Sci-Fi universe in recent memory at least, where humanity isn't a complete bag of shit. Pretty much every other universe we are the most aggressive, low-life SOBs out there, particularly in Halo but especially War Hammer.

I've never really gotten into Star Trek at all, though I'm such a nerd I'm sure I would enjoy it if I gave it half a chance.
