Here's one slightly more reliable than About.com:

Can the Cold Give You a Cold? - Cold and Flu Center - EverydayHealth.com

Weather as an Indirect Cause of the Cold

While simply stepping outside in cold weather without a jacket doesn't cause a cold, hypothermia (the lowering of the body's core temperature) suppresses immunity, which can lead to colds. "Most cold symptoms are produced by the body's immune system physically responding to the rhinovirus," says Belilovsky. "So, someone with a stronger immune system in the cold will produce more [mucus], while the one with the weaker immune system will sniffle longer, but less dramatically." The person with the weaker immune system probably will have more complications, such as sinusitis or ear infections, Belilovsky adds.

Cold weather may be indirectly responsible for colds, however. Vasoconstriction — when blood vessels close to the outside of the body, such as those found in the nose, narrow — leads to dryness. "This dryness compromises the nose's ability to filter infections," Belilovsky explains. "On returning to warm air, rebound vasodilation occurs, where your hands get pink and your nose starts running as blood returns to it." The cycle continues if the runny nose is severe enough to cause mouth breathing. Bypassing the nose's ability to filter inhaled air, combined with dry indoor air, allows the inhalation of virus-bearing mucus, which may trigger colds and lower respiratory infections.

Out in the Cold - Harvard Health Publications

Cold weather and respiratory disease, including flu, also go hand in hand. Research has shown that cold spells are reliably followed by upticks in the number of deaths from respiratory disease. Some of this may have to do with a few infectious organisms, like flu viruses, thriving in colder temperatures, but there's also evidence that exposure to cold temperatures suppresses the immune system, so the opportunities for infection increase. A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine in the late 1970s famously debunked the belief that the common cold is linked to cold exposure, but British cold researchers have maintained that there is a cold–to–common cold connection. Their hypothesis: cold air rushing into the nasal passages makes infections more probable by diminishing the local immune response there.

incorrect. cold has nothing to do with catching the flu. it's a virus that's spread from person to person, cold weather has nothing to do with it.

        - - - Updated - - -

cold weather can suppress your immune system, but you can't catch the flu by "spending time in cold weather" which was the OP's statement.

Since viruses and bacteria tend to spread more easily in warmer environments, you are probably less likely to get sick being in a colder environment.
Thus my statement is correct and is technically true.

I never claimed that the cold CAUSED IT. I'm simply saying that there's a direct proven connection while you're denying that one exists. I'm providing evidence that disproves your theory and you're posting links from About.com that have nothing to do with what I said. Stop being childish, learn when you're wrong and when to admit it.

Again, you are not going by what the OP said, nor are you going off of my post. You are simply trying to post truths that run tangent. The OP said they got sick from spending too much time in the cold. This does not cause you to get sick.

He never said that the cold caused it, moron. He said he caught a cold in the cold, not from it. Read more carefully.

              - - - Updated - - -

Cold weather promotes dry weather, dry weather promotes the spreading of viruses. Cold weather congests the sinuses and defaults most to breathing through the mouth, bypassing the normal immune system wall that is your nose.

Ok, here's his statement. This statement implies 100% he got a cold or at least "a bitch of a cough" "from spending too much time in the cold." This is a common misconception that if you spend time in the cold without a jacket, or with wet hair, or just in a cold climate, you can "catch a cold." This is what he stated. This is incorrect. Then you felt the need to swoop in and claim my statement was incorrect. Which makes you wrong.
