Re: I work out! (well not yet... but I need to)

I'll post my progress here with as much detail as I can. I'd urge those of you also trying to work out to post as well. Maybe we can help to advise and keep one another motivated.

From what I hear, P90X is also a really really good program.

I did P90x for the first 60 days of the plan and physically couldn't get out of bed on day 61. It broke my stride and my willpower. It's intense as hell and if you can keep up with it... more power to you.

            damn really?

Didn't think it was that intense. But I do strongly recommend getting a personal trainer and seeing a nutritionist, because they'll be a huge help. What I'm looking into myself atm.

Yyg I was looking over your proposed workout and to be honest I think it's a little over ambitious. I say that because you are working so many different muscle groups at the same time that you will be worn out before you get a good workout on any particular group. If you are going for strength I would advise just sticking to a few muscle groups per day. Maybe something like:
              Mon: chest and triceps
              Tues: back, biceps and shoulders
              Wed: rest
              Thurs: core
              Fri: legs
              Weekend: rest

I see what you're saying... but at least for the first week I'm going to try and do the plan I have written out. If I burn myself out and can't handle it, I'll take your plan and augment it to fit my schedule.

You may very well be right about me being over ambitious. I'll keep you posted.

On a related note: Found my old Whey protein with creatine in the cabinet. Stoked I don't have to buy any for a few weeks.

I want to join in on this thread because I really need to start working out again.

I may have to walk to work tomorrow, truck is acting gay. 4.5 mile walk one way ought to be a good start, huh?

Re: I work out! (well not yet... but I need to)

Well for me, I'm about 5'8" and around 190-ish last I checked (my ideal weight is about 157) so I've got some work to do lol. I've started watching what I eat more closely and plan to use Raspberry Ketone (highly recommended by Dr. Oz btw) to help burn off more fat during workouts.

My biggest problem at the moment is either getting some decent equipment at home (I had no idea that even at the discount outlet stores from SEARS, freaking treadmills run $800+ - and that's marked down from 2200!) or getting a gym membership. I've got 1 spot that's not too far from me and another that's further down the road, just gotta go check 'em out. Though, I've never been a fan of group sessions and would honestly much prefer solo or 1 on 1 with a personal trainer.

The other thing too that's vital is lifestyle changes - it's easy to burn off fat, but keeping it off is much harder. Why you should never pay attention to diets, because they're all just trendy fads that only work in the short run - soon as you go back to your old habits guess what, the weight comes crawling back.

This is a large part of why I'm not in shape. My eating habits are pretty terrible as I like to idly munch on things when bored and have trouble saying no to ice cream. I made a conscious effort a few months back to eat healthier and it seemed to help, but after a while I slipped back into my old eating patterns and lost pretty much all progress I'd made.

The only lifestyle change I've managed to maintain is a very modest workout schedule and while it hasn't done wonders, it has helped keep my back pain at bay, so at least I've got that.

A pretty simple way to improve your eating habits is just to replace the things you are eating with better ones. Snacking throughout the day is actually preferable to eating 3 large meals. Drink lots of water and replace ice cream with non-fat frozen yogurt. Add in a Protein based milk shake here and there and you will be amazed how much better you feel.

Most people who work out never get close to burning fat. Look into the ketogenic diet. It's not terrible; you eat mostly cheese, nuts, and meat, with a smattering of green vegetables.

Any time you try to 'trick' your body it usually ends poorly. Fad diets (especially the ultra-low-to-no carb diets) are all very bad for you and leave your body in an unmaintainable state afterwards. High intensity cardio, high rep weight lifting and a balanced diet are the best ways to lose weight.
