I prefer Sorbets to Ice Cream generally (Gelato's even better, and tastier) as they are milk-based instead of cream-based - a lot less fat.

And yeah snacking through the day is actually just fine (again, Dr. Oz endorses this and does this himself - always has trail mix in his pockets or carrots at his desk etc.) as long as it's healthy. It's also why I'm trying to curb my hours - funny fact, the later you stay up at night, the more prone to unhealthy snacking you become. It's weird but true. Acai products (you have to be very careful with these as a lot of them are scams and almost all of them are expensive) are also really great at burning fat, curb your hunger, and keep your energy levels up.

The ketogenic diet is low-carb, and it isn't about tricking your body. It's switching from one fuel to another. The typical person consumes so many carbs that their body has no need to burn fat. They can lift weights, do HIIT, whatever, but the human body burns glucose before fat and can hold a large amount of glucose.

It may sound strange, but adding something small like Bee Pollen to your daily foods can do wonders for your overall health. The stuff is expensive and has a VERY short shelf life (less than 3-4 days after opening) but it's one of the best "super foods" out there.

Best part is that it blends seamlessly and tastelessly into anything. I add it to my shakes in the morning.

Here's a complete list of the benefits. It's been researched and documented countless times. The only real risk is obviously if you have an allergy or if you're breastfeeding (since you wouldn't know your child's allergies just yet).

Amazing link, Ozdrasil, but it's bunk. There's nothing in bee pollen you can't get in other more common foods. About half-way down the page they even stopped citing which ingredient causes which effect, they just list them off. A multivitamin and EAA shake will cost you a lot less and probably taste a lot better.

Stay away from machines. They're only there because it's less overhead for the gym - they hardly need to teach you how to use them, and even without training you have to go out of your way to hurt yourself with them. The catch is that they train your muscles in isolation, which means:
                * You're not training them to work together, and you're not simulating any real movement. Part of your practical strength is neurological.
                * You'd need to do dozens of exercises to cover all your muscles entire body. You don't have time for that bullshit, but more importantly...
                * You'll probably undertrain some muscles, and risk injury when some of your muscles are strong and the ones that are supposed to balance them are weak.

You want squats (legs), deadlifts (back), press and bench press (arms, chest, shoulders). Your abs will sort themselves out, because you can't keep your back straight for a squat with weak abs. Starting Strength teaches you how to do them without hurting yourself, and the Kindle version is just $10. There's also a DVD, which is useful if you want to get started fast. I recommend you buy a weightlifting belt to protect your back during squats and deadlifts, and wear flat, hard-soled shoes. If you can get a friend to work out with you and make sure your form is correct, that can also go a long way towards not hurting yourself.

Make fun of the guy all you want but Oz knows his shit and his program is great (unlike certain other TV "Doctor" I could name lol).

And yeah Bee Pollen is powerful stuff, probably why it's 1 of the boosters they offer in their smoothies at Booster Juice. Low carb diets can be dangerous FYI - ideally 60% of your daily calories should be carbs (slow-burning) 30% Fat and only 10% Protein.

Sounds about right if you swap the fat and protein. I hear low-carb diets leave you feeling tired, and since the hardest part of working out is actually getting the motivation to do it, I'd stay away from anything that could demotivate you.

It's called withdrawal. Drink caffeine for a week and then go cold turkey, you'll feel just as tired. With a little patience, you'll come out of the other side feeling great.

I'll take your word for it, my fiancé's brother used it to lose weight and it worked for him. Still seems like a bad idea for anyone that's contemplating strength training though.

No, that's what the Canadian Food Guide put out by Health Canada recommends. You only need a small bit of protein to maintain muscle and heal (obviously in Ygg's case however, since he wants to bulk up a bit he should be consuming more - protein shakes are probably ideal rather than just more meat.)

Believe me, 30% fat is just fine - your body NEEDS FAT, it helps metabolize food and generate energy. However you want to stick to mono-unsaturated fats as much as possible - they're the good kind (trying to remember stuff from my Gr. 12 foods science course now lol)

It's saturated fats that are the killer, and ESPECIALLY transfats - those are the worst and there's a good reason we banned them in Restaurants here. They spike your blood sugar like crazy.

The reason for the high amount of carbs is because your brain runs purely on sugar and nothing else - Sugar is at it's core, pure concentrated energy (fat even more so) so you need a good chunk of it for your entire body, but especially your mind. People on low-carb diets will lack the capacity to tackle anything that's mentally-intensive (might be why despite all the sugar I take in I'm mostly fine as I'm constantly wracking my noggin 24/7 lol - not quite on the level of "L" from Death Note but similar enough XD )

Again, the key with carbs is to make sure you're eating the right kinds - fruits, veggies and starches all of which are slow-burning carbs (as opposed to sugary snacks or pop which are fast-burning and empty calories)

What I would strongly recommend is get some protein powder to mix in with homemade fruit smoothies - just take some orange juice, a banana or 2 (for potassium and flavor) and mix in whatever other fruit you like (I LOVE fresh berries, most of which also double as anti-cancer agents. Raspberries are also a "super fruit" and incidentally my favorite food of all ) and just blend it up. You can add a bit of probiotic yogurt as well if you're feeling adventurous to give it a bit more body (watermelon also works wonders in place of crushed ice for adding body to a smoothie).

Or yogurt with berries & granola is good too. I'm trying to wean myself off of the usual sugary breakfast cereals (though I do still love eating them lol >< ) for more oatmeal, as hot oatmeal (with a bit of brown sugar for flavor) really charges the 'ol batteries in the morning. I wish stupid Quaker still made the raspberry flavor one though... can't find it anywhere anymore, gotta settle for Banana Nut or Blueberry
