So, I Top 8'd at the Game Day event today. Full art Melek get. /go me

Specifically, I actually got 8th exactly. I know I could've done a lot better if I hadn't punted Round 3 Game 1 (on the play) by dumping all of my Creatures into what was obviously going to become Mutilate mana. I had Legion's Initiative on the board already; the correct play was clearly to leave mana open to save the Creatures I already had in play from mutilation.

Ah well, live and learn. The store has a weekly Standard event tomorrow, free entry with top prize being $100 store credit. I'll reiterate that this store does this every week, and does similar events on other weekdays. It's pretty awesome, and they happen to stock board games that I'd be very interested in bringing home (7Wonders and Seasons, for example) moreso than more Magic packs.

So.. both M14 and modern masters looking good so far.

I hate that they reprinted bob for Modern though and not Ravnica block. Archangel of Thune is ridiculous O.O

Been trolling on Cockatrice with my Dimir deck. It would be fun to build it IRL but tapleflips tend to hurt when you're on the other side of them.

I speak from experience. Thankfully a table is far from the worst thing I have ever have thrown at me.

Woogerworks has a server that is still going and maintains the oracle updates:

Woogerworks - If you download the Cockatrice client from there it will be updated with all of the Woogerworks server info.

I have a Kozilek EDH deck that's about halfway finished (45/100, to be exact). I went browsing online for some more cards to finish the deck.

~$65, for 19 of the cards I want. Don't think I'm finishing it any time soon, but at least when I do I'll own some solid cards that I can use for any EDH deck I make in the future. Which, admittedly, is sort of the point of me building Kozilek in the first place.

Regarding Standard I'm in a bit of a rut right now. I can beat the snot out of any wanna-be control deck right now, but so can darn-near anybody (case in point, Maze's End decks). Everybody else, though, seemingly out-aggros or simply outlasts me, which really bums me out (particularly when people start wising up and stop playing their pet durdle decks, at least for the next few months).

If there's any guild to invest in, it's Selesnya. I've already got my playset of Temple Gardens, but I have literally no idea where to go from here. Do I splurge for the Stomping Grounds and go Naya? Or do I drop Red entirely? Burning-Tree Emissaries are pretty much must-haves, either way . . . as well as that darn Voice of Resurgence guy, if you can find him.

Eh if your local metagame favours aggro then I'm not too sure about dropping Red from any deck.

                      • Re: Magic: The Gathering

Update: Stomping Grounds and Temple Gardens are totally trading prices. Glad I got each of them when I did: got my playset of Stomping Grounds today for $9 apiece.

Of course, I still have my Temple Gardens. Today was Naya Humans time!

. . . except, I was at a bit of a handicap. Of all the things for a store to be missing, the freaking three Gore-House Chainwalkers for the main deck and the three Hungers of the Howlpack for the sideboard (spot-removal one of my dudes? Sure, I'll take a permanent Giant Growth effect for another), both of which being commons, as well as the slightly more crucial (and uncommon) four Experiments One, were just plain ridiculous. In a pinch, I snagged up four copies of Rancor (actually a slight downgrade from Experiment One in this build that I unfortunately can't otherwise fit in the deck), and cobbled together the missing pieces of my sideboard from the remnants of my dismantled Boros deck.

Still, I wasn't going to let that get me down. Round 1 I wiped the floor with some RB deck (2-0), Round 2 I outraced a Rites deck (2-0), and Round 3 was Esper Control, which I still maintain is a particularly laughable excuse for a Standard deck (2-gotta-ask?-0).

Course, after I had come back from lunch (which I had enough time for after my previous matchup), Round 4 another Rites deck managed to outrace me (1-2), and Round 5 game 1 I had the worst luck ever. 20 Lands in my deck, right? Draw a 5-Land hand. Mulligan. Get another 5-Land hand. If that ever happens again I'll know to mulligan again; of course, game 2, the Izzet control player I was playing sided in what was possibly every removal spell available in his colors (0-2).

Game 6 I played a mono-Green ramp deck, but he was completely tilted at that point, and dropped during game 2 (2-0). Of course, he was perhaps right to do so, as even with a 4-2 match record, I had only made 11th (out of roughly 60), so Top 8 wound up outside both of our grasps.

Now, I'm ordering me some freaking common cards online (I had traded one of my Clifftop Retreats for a playset of Experiment One in the middle of the event). With a less jerry-rigged build, and hopefully less terrible luck, next week seems like some prime Top 8 time for me. But it was nice, even in some small part, putting theory to practice. Topping your mana curve at 2, in three colors, can apparently get you there in Standard right now.

So, ya'll been keeping up with the latest jank? I mean good lord, look at this sucker:

5 mana win the game? >.>

This thing was MADE for Jund/BUG.

                          T1: Experiment One
T2: Gyre Sage, swing for 2
                          T3: Burning-Tree Emissary, Exava
                          T4: Hydra and win.

Just 1 example, but this thing's potential is through the roof.

Is that damage being dealt specifically by Scourge of Valkas, or by whichever dragon is entering the field? The wording on that could stand to be improved.
