I think the alternative vote is a good plan for a long-term voting system. While it wouldn't change the system right away, It does stand to erode the power base over time and that's precisely what needs to happen with the Democrats and Republicans.

Under that process my vote would probably flow like:

      1. Gary Johnson
      2. Jill Stein
      3. Mitt Romney
      4. Barack Obama

Still, initially, people would make the same arguments about voting third party. Additionally, for something like this to be instated, it would have to happen in an election where everyone is starting from the bottom and there's t no incumbent. Party loyalty is going to keep people from wanting to implement a system while there are incumbents seeking another term. And that's for any office. They'd never agree on the year.

      EDIT:

      ABC's 'facts" are broken.

Unemployment is not 7.8%, those numbers are fudged so hard its sad. Additionally the Americans unemployed aren't 12.1 million, more like 24 million - that includes the underemployed, the 99 weekers and those that have just given up. Biden is peddling the same cooked books the White House was pushing since Bush was in office.

So I'm guessing that VP debate didn't do much for anyone.

Bidan - Be a jackass, don't really answer anything.
Ryan - Don't answer anything, drink water, furrow brow.

Well I enjoyed how Biden was nearly falling out of his seat laughing at Ryan and called him out on his bullshit.

Neither side really presented anything significant, but Ryan came across as actively trying to deceive while Biden was just interrupting all the time pointing out said deceptions. The bit on Iran was probably the most telling. Sanctions were presented as utterly destroying the Iranian economy. Short of taking military action there's not many other options on the table but Ryan/Romney want a tougher stance just because that's what Republicans always try to do, but it really looks like the next step is military involvement, which is exactly what this country does not need.

It was nice to see a moderator actually call a politician on the fact that they didn't actually answer the question. We definitely need more of that. Also the moderators need to be able to mute a candidate's mic when it's not their turn.

She didn't seem terribly interested in calling out Biden on his totally false employment statistics or his fudging around on the embassy attack. I mean, either Hillary Clinton is wrong or he's right and I would hope no one would be stupid enough to think she's going to take the fall for that. She won't.

Moderator: Give us some specifics about your five point plan.
Ryan: Nope, I'm going to be vague.
Moderator: Seriously, specifics. Give us some.
Ryan: lalalala, I can't hear you

                Moderator: Unemployment!
                Biden: SPECIFIC NUMBERS!

I sincerely doubt the moderator is in charge of fact checking everything before the debate, so it's a lot easier to call someone out on outright refusing to answer a question(which is supposed to be the whole point of the debate) than it is to call someone out on having incorrect numbers.

It would be understandable if it wasn't the same fudged employment numbers we'd been fed since 2007-2008 under Bush. Specific lie is still a lie and anyone with a lick of common sense knows that's exactly what it was. Hint: Anyone unemployed for over 99 weeks is not included in the total, only those receiving unemployment are. Also not counted: Underemployed (those working substantially less than full or even adequate part-time).

Well no shit Sherlock. The Unemployment Rate is not The Number Of People Who Don't Have Jobs. It never has been. That's not something you hold against a specific candidate, that's something you hold against the whole fucked up system that concocted that scheme.

Hey so you finally get what I've been saying about the UK employment figures for ages? Awesome!

As for the current situation in the UK I will leave these links:

Everyone over here knows of SERCO. Nobody likes them either.

BBC News - Starbucks 'paid just £8.6m UK tax in 14 years'

Apparently they have paid just over $13.8m in tax in the UK over 14 years while small businesses can barely stay open due to the UK government going after those instead of the corporations that actually raise enough revenue to make them worth taxing.

                            Amused.

I do have to say Nice Peter did make a strong point in that video. Our presidents from since I would say Lincoln and up have changed severely with their ideals. From freeing slaves to now digging out of the hole we call "National Debt" and "Economy." It feels like the elections are just picking a liar and just siding with the guy who's lies fits you the most.

If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union
I think what you want is something so old that you don't have to look at all the messy details. The history most of us are taught and the history of how things occured are very different.

Lincoln was no saint. He was a politician.
