Swearing and Cussing.

So, why do people find swearing, and cussing offensive. In reality, the words are just used for something else. Just like Gay means Happy, yet it changed from being something good to something bad.

Not for young eyes.

Shit=Feces
Fuck=Sex
Ass=Butt
Asshole=anus
Hell=place
Faggot=Ciggerrete.
Bastard=Fatherless child.
Bitch= Female Dog (I've even heard its the actual technical term.)

And so on, and so forth. So, why is this? I swear a lot, mostly because it's how I talk, and people get offended by it. Yet, in reality, it shouldn't be offensive, its just another word for something else.

Only three words I find offensive and I won't even type them out. The "Fa-" word, the "N" word, and the "C" word, since they're always used in extremely hateful manners (Minus the "N" word between two black people.)

Otherwise, people have distorted the bible with taking God's name in vain into meaning cursing -- when it actually means taking His name and using it for your own goals (IE: The Crusades.) However, that's only partly the reason.

I'm one of the foulest mouthed people I know but always get to babysit, Thankfully only one kid has repeated a bad word from me lol.
Fag is an odd one a foggot is a minced meat and onion ball in gravy. Which applied to the way a gay man walks "mincing" Fag is an abreviation of faggot but faggot doesnt mean cigarette. I'm not sure how the cigarette got the fag tag but gay men got it from the sucking action on a slender stick.

The word snog offends me even more than the C word.
There's a big difference with swear words. Many of them when used are not very offensive at all. It's how they are said that is important.

Swearing is funny, so I don't do it often to preserve the humor.

Also, a bastard is somebody without a legal claim to a family or lineage. A female can be a bastard as easily as a male can, and it's probably a matter of custom or even up for debate as to what defines a legal claim.

Words have meaning and nuance. Using certain words brings the emotional baggage associated with them. If you want to use those words (outside of this forum), feel free, but don't complain when people treat you appropriately.

Oh, and speaking as a moderator, while we don't generally care about the occasional swear word for emphasis, there are standards on this forum, so please be careful when discussing this topic.

There's a South Park episode where they talked about the 3 letter F word (and the associated 6 letter F word) having its meaning changed over the centuries and culminated in the usage of said words regarding "loud and obnoxious Harley bikers".

Forgot to add to what Icemage posted that using (hate language) in a threatening manner is not "protected speech" in the US of A. Saying the 4 letter F word is one thing. Saying that in conjunction with the 6 letter N word while pulling out a crowbar and participating in assault and battery will get your sweet cheeks behind bars.
