Am I the only one who finds the militant atheists more obnoxious and annoying than raving fundamentalists?

I find them equally obnoxious. I prefer to just not surround myself with people who discuss religion, either positively or negatively. It's a personal thing.

The problem with the militant atheist boils down to them mostly claiming intellectual superiority while displaying a total lack of tact and civility. When the "intellectual" can't rise above calling people stupid for what they believe, it mostly kills any hope for a civil discussion.

When Christians can't express thier faith without parroting what they've been spoonfed, they tend to not take the high road, either. It's never fun when everyone speaks in absolutes.

I'm with Murphie on this one, they're both pretty terrible. Extremism is awful no matter which end of the spectrum it's on.

            BBQ, I wasn't even trollin'.

There was just so much blind acceptance of complete ass-pulls that it was just plain uncharacteristic of this forum. From OP saying "illegal to live together if you're not married, ALSO legal to beat your wife", Raydeus existing, Malacite claiming wife beating is legal in Topeka, and Armando apparently taking him at that (he could've been sarcastic, but a bit too thinly veiled for the internets). Even Always Awesome Armando got in on the herpin' and derpin' up in this thread.

The actual opinions and arguments being presented (Marriage should be a civil, not state matter; government don't need to be messin' with that) are perfectly reasonable, which is why it disappoints me to see such absolutely shitty claims being parroted as facts. I've spent a year and a half living in Asia specifically to not live in Kansas, and I still am not prejudiced enough to take seriously the claim that wife-beating would be legalized for half a second.

I just passed over it, ass pulls like that are not worth time.

The illegal to be gay thing was in the OP, so that needed clearing up.

Nope. Tactless atheists are obnoxious and annoying. And here's one of them:

Surprise, though. Militant atheists are quick to take up sword and shield and white knight the douche. You cannot just tell a religious person that their beliefs are bullshit and that they should disregard.

Yeah, the kicker was this guy was there to give an anti-bullying speech and went on to target and attack a group, which he was there to encourage kids not to do.

                  Real role model, that guy.

Goes to why I find militant atheists even more annoying. Somebody is trying to make a case for a cause you believe, and they suck at it. People say Dan Savage is a journalist and so he is not there to make people happy, he's just there to tell the truth. Or whatever. The way I see it, he's there to try and sell an idea. If his purpose was to change minds, Dan Savage:

                      Re: North Carolina Amendment One

All religions are equally crazy, just some are more acceptable than others because they've been around longer (see: Christianity vs Scientology)

But I won't degrade anyone for their faith, that's just uncalled for except for a select hardcore few who just refuse to accept solid evidence to the contrary. For example, I can not say whether or not God exists (I myself am agnostic so I don't dismiss the notion of a higher power outright, I just view religion as a man-made explanation for something we can't truly comprehend yet) but I CAN tell you the Earth is definitely more than 6000 years old.

                      *ahem*

This is the part where we go back to the difference between Faith and Religion.

But the topic is too uninteresting to take it seriously. Zzz (_ _ )

Seems ballots are being handed out that don't even have the Amendment 1 vote on it.
