A counter-balance to all my gloom and doom political threads. It's not all bad. There's plenty of reason to believe society and technology will simply outgrow many of the problems we're currently stressing about, and lots of other stuff going on that's just plain cool. I expect I'll be sharing a lot of TED talks here. Post whatever you think supports the topic.

That actually is a good idea and if they use UV filtered (to get rid of any bacteria) rain water from rain water harvesting systems its quite environmentally friendly.

If I were going to describe the perfect contraceptive, it would go something like this: no babies, no latex, no daily pill to remember, no hormones to interfere with mood or sex drive, no negative health effects whatsoever, and 100 percent effectiveness. The funny thing is, something like that currently exists.

Imagine a world where there was no such thing as an unwanted pregnancy.

Granted, this could also segue into an oh-god-the-horror future, but self-replicating machina are a prerequisite technology for one possible singularity.

This is about as much as we know about the singularity. We know it will come eventually, and that it'll be revolutionary, but we don't really understand how wide it will reach and exactly what will change.

What we can probably assume though is that, like the internet, the social ramifications are going to be far huger than the IT crap we worry about.
