  • Re: Time for a change... ((Health stuff.))

I'm teetering on the edge of the wagon, but I think a lot of that has something to do with the fact that I set the bar very low for myself so it's easy to fall off and get back on without noticing. I've kept up my very modest exercise routine, which basically amounts to push-ups and crunches(lunges got dropped due to them fucking up my knees every time I did them) plus walking to work and managed to more or less maintain a steady weight. Before I was generally fluctuating between 185 and 190, but now I'm down to 180-185. The thing is, I haven't seen it go much further than that, and sometimes it relapses and I have to make a conscious effort to "get back on the wagon". I think it probably means I need to get better about regulating my diet. Lord knows all those cheetos during D&D aren't helping. I should probably up my reps for the routine as well since I've just sort of plateaued rather than improved any lately.

One thing I have noticed is that I seem to do worse when I'm not getting enough sleep. When my work had me pulling 8-6 days for a week and I was getting minimal sleep every night, it did a number on me. I don't know if there's any validity to it, but I think just getting enough sleep is probably a good idea for anyone looking to stay healthy.

Next goal: get weight range down to 175-180

My sleep has gone to crap in the past few months, and it certainly hasn't been helping. I blame FFXI and the fact that my friends' play schedule is built around PST, so I stay up two hours later than they do and then have to get up with the kids in the morning. I went from 8 hours of sleep on average to less than 6, which is workable for a few days but takes its toll over weeks. Last night I finally put personal well-being over character progression and skipped Salvage II to go to bed at a reasonable hour. Now I've got this dull pressure in my head like you get when you oversleep.

^_^ I just signed up for a membership at GoodLife last week, today was my 2nd day with my PT (I only got him for 4 more days sadly, can't afford anymore than that right now - I just wanted to get a leg up on how to get started)

I gotta say, I'm really feeling the burn lol. But I feel so much better now that I'm actually exercising again. Dear God I really let myself go...

Depending on how out of shape you actually are, a goal of a 10 minute mile by the end of three months if you workout 4 to 5 days a week doesn't sound too bad. I think you can do it!

I got back on the fitness kick thanks to a thread on BG, I am going to attempt a 5k by the end of summer, which, since it's May, should be doable. My main issue is it's fucking hot here and I have found it much easier to run on the treadmill.

Yeah we're getting some really welcome, unseasonable warmth here - it's normally only in the mid-teens but it's been in the mid 20's and sunny all damn week - LOVE IT ^_^

This kind of heat is normal around here, it just sucks to work out in.

                  Remember to stay hydrated!

And don't forget to bring a towel!

I ran this morning, did a nonstop half a mile on the track (as opposed to the treadmill, where I tend to run longer but slower) then alternating run/walking. Small amount of progress is still progress.

I think I will do a weigh-in tomorrow when I get up, too. I've been doing them roughly weekly.

You've already used that one Etra. You don't get any points for repeats.

I may have mentioned this before, but I'm doing another month of keto. Last time I lost 20 pounds in the month, but the required amount of will power was tremendous. I'm already struggling with limiting what kinds of foods I can eat. As a little exercise, I put a can of Amp (my energy drink of choice) on my desk that I'm not allowed to touch under any circumstances. Now I can easily practice resisting it.

Wouldn't out of sight, out of mind be a better option? Especially considering if you really start to crave it two weeks after not having it, your best bet is to just drink/eat whatever it is. Otherwise, the cravings will get much worse. Best just to get it out of your system and go back to "detox."
