So, I saw an interesting add today while at Good Life...

Apparently you should only work your biceps vigorously once a week or you'll overdo it.

      Ideally, you'd do both.

If by "overdo it" you mean break down the muscles, causing them to rebuild and grow stronger and bigger then you are correct.

Not really. All you need is a day off. Only veteran body builders take a week off for a specific muscle and that's only because they spend an entire day using that muscle.

Also remember that biceps are vanity muscles.

And also remember, there's nothing wrong with training "vanity muscles."

If you want big biceps, yeah. If you're training for general strength, not so much. Just depends on your goals.

I'm just trying to slim down and build a little strength - not really interested in bulking up, just wanna look & feel normal for my age.

Ever wonder what it looks like to run 25mph?

I've been holding steady at 170-175 lbs. Yay progress.

My pull-up count is also up to 2-4. It'd probably be better, but my opportunities to actually do pull ups are pretty irregular so I've just been fitting them in whenever I can. Still, that's more than I ever imagined being able to do before.

I'm not really sure where to go from here. I'm still flabby and I suspect that's because I still don't run and rely on the walk to and from work instead, but seriously...fuck running. The only thing that's visibly improved as far as I can tell is my forearms. Push-ups are actually paying off I guess. Definitely gonna keep at it, but short of getting equipment/gym or running I'm not sure what to do next.

                        Have you considered running?

Yes. I consider it painful, unpleasant and unsustainable. I've made progress thus far because I've done stuff I know I can keep doing. Running is something that I'd get sick of in less than a week day and stop doing.

It doesn't need to be. You could jog until talking in complete sentences is difficult and walk until you catch your breath. I do that for 20 minutes 4 times a week. You really shouldn't be working at such a high intensity for a sustained period of time.

At any rate I would recommend watching your diet if you're starting to plateau. It's always easier to cut calories from your food than to burn them with exercise. I'm not saying not to exercise more, but any calories burnt that way are just icing on the cake.

I hate running too. I use the elliptical machine at the gym. Plug in my head phones, and I'm good for 30 mins before getting bored.

I *loved* running back in elementary and highschool, but hate it now - I tire too easily, in part due to my damned asthma (wind pipe is constricted making it harder to breathe and recover).

So, I've been going to the gym for 2 months roughly with my trainer and have progressed rather well ^^

I was around 200 lbs when I started, 27.6% BF and my cholesterol was a bit high (forget exact count) - now I'm 176, 20.2% BF and 127/68
