Was just looking through the old "Official Final Fantasy XI forum" thread. Needed Naturebeckles to put a smile on my face. But just thought I'd remind people about this that Aksannyi made.

Haha, I had forgotten about those. Some of those still ring true.

I miss TGM. But we have had some really good times on these forums. I also do troll back on old threads and read the stuff we used to argue and/or laugh about, all the changes made to FFXI over the years. I think if this forum ever shut down, I'd be sad that I couldn't ever go back through the archives.

...Well, it was no easy decision, but I am going to play Final Fantasy XI again. Just going to take it easy this time. Even if all I do is log on and use it as a glorified chat room while I roast mobs. Probably going to just slowly level subs with my NPC on tank mode for a while. It will save me from a lot of bored and lonely days like I've been having lately.

I just reactivated my WoW account after a two month hiatus. I will probably still play sporadically, but meh. It's fun.

Oh, and I got this for myself as a Christmas gift:


I am painfully aware that my old tattoo looks like total crap next to this amazing piece of art on my skin. In a few months, I'm going to get it touched up and do a half sleeve with the two cats. Unfortunately, I just don't have the funds to do it right now (and I'd rather wait for this sweetie to heal first).

Hmmm, 2 months. Well, for me, it's been nearly a year. Almost made it a full year. But I think it's the right decision as long as I don't let it be the only thing I do these days. I talk a lot about a group of friends I see roughly every 2 weeks. But that's all I ever get to see them, so that's still 13 days where I'm mostly twiddling my thumbs and moping about how to meet people. I'm terrible at meeting new people and making new friends. I still know a couple of people that still play, and it'll give me something to do when all else fails.

I wonder how different the game is since January of this year. If there is one thing that can be said about Final Fantasy XI, it's that it does change sufficiently enough that you're running around like a headless chicken if you've been away too long.

That's how I feel when I don't play WoW for a while, the interface in and of itself is the same, but there are small cosmetic changes in things or new features. And new achievements to shoot for! That's my favorite thing to do in WoW.

I think if I played FFXI now I would be totally lost. I'd still remember my way around the old zones but I would feel so out of place. Especially considering I don't have my old account anymore. I'm sure this shoebox laptop would run it if I ever wanted to play, but I vowed after I lost my account I would never play it again. Every once in a while I troll YouTube for old songs from the game. Nostalgia-bombing hard. I will always have good memories of the game, I just can't bring myself to forgive SE for banning me for fraud and not taking the time to be human and at least look into the matter.

This doesn't change that I'm conflicted about the game, unfortunately. I'll play it again because it gave me some stability, and a way to fill in some void in my life that I apparently fail at filling in myself. I still wouldn't buy it for somebody for their birthday.

EDIT: Crap, I'll be playing on a laptop computer! Which means using W A S D for movement! >< I wonder if it is at all X-box controller compatible.

I used to plug in a PS2 controller with the game. I had one of those USB converters. The whole configuration was like $30.

Ah. You know what's not putting a smile on my face? A bajillion updates needing to be downloaded with a clean restart!

EDIT: Reading some of the old threads is making me think back to a time when I was so passionate about the game. I'm beginning to remember why I had so much fun back then.

Just had sombebody come up to me and compare one of my cakes I made for them to one of the local pro cake makers, I was told they'll be using me from now on. because the other person made them dry and not enough filling.
