See? Aren't proper breakfasts so much more fulfilling than a bowl of cereal?

Quite. It's just a matter of feeling like cooking which I almost never do before midday. Also, all the best, most satisfying breakfast foods are crammed with tons of fat, cholesterol and sodium, so even on a good week when I'm feeling up to it there's a limit to how much I'll allow myself to make.

Yeah, the best breakfast meals tend to be terrible for you. Pancakes and bacon being one of the worst offenders.

I need to find more breakfast options. Something quick and easy to make that's both healthy and delicious, because grabbing a pop tart on my way out the door is just not doing it for me.

I console myself with the idea that since it's the first meal of the day, I have all day to burn off the unhealthy calories before they get stored in time bomb form somewhere in my body. I don't know how well grounded in reality that story is, but I keep telling it to myself.

There's an informative list over here at WebMD, but none of their suggestions exactly inspire mouth watering. That smoothie I posted in the other thread does the job for me most days coupled with a granola bar or a cup of trail mix.

Throw some milk in a blender, add 1-2 frozen bananas for each cup of milk. Optionally add some spoonfuls of peanut butter and/or chocolate syrup. You could probably throw some cereal into the blender too and it would let you get away with eating cereals that are totally bland like no-sugar shredded wheat. Also make a PB&J sandwich so you can have something solid. The only catch is that you'll have to clean the blender, but at least you didn't cook.

Sometimes it's helpful to let it sit on the counter for 20 minutes before you put your blender to work on it, or you can load the fruit and juice the night before and let it sit in your refrigerator until morning. It's about 450 calories, a huge amount of fat-free protein (about half the USRDA), and four servings of fruit. It goes against "don't drink your calories," but I've had a hard time working enough fruit and veg into my diet, adding protein without adding fat and cholesterol, and getting decent breakfasts since I'm usually too lazy to cook in the mornings, so this solved a lot of problems for me.

              Calories : 485
Calories from Fat : 3 // All from the banana O_o
              Total Carbohydrate : 95g ( 32% )
              - Dietary Fiber : 8g ( 32%) // This is evenly split between the banana, peaches, and berries
              - Sugars : 65g
Protein : 29g ( 58% ) // Nearly all of this is from the Greek yogurt
              Cholesterol : 10mg ( 3% )
              Sodium : 110mg ( 5% )
              Potassium : 1g ( 28% )
              Vitamin A : 12%
Vitamin C : 457% // About 2/3 from the peaches and 1/4 from the OJ
              Iron : 8%
              Calcium : 34%

These keep me full for a couple hours (it's a quart of fluid after all) and provide a pretty steady burn of energy for the first half of the day. For me it's not quite enough to be a full meal by itself, and needs to be backed up with something solid like some bread, cereal, steamed young soy beans, or sparingly a poached egg.

I usually have fruit and cottage cheese in the morning, because it's fast, requires no cooking, and isn't eggs, which I am weird about. That or in the winter time, steel-cut oatmeal I make the night before.

Im a creature of habit. My breakfast routine rotates based on the day of the week. It helps me to accurately predict my weekly food shopping bill as well.

Monday: 1/8 cup of Cranberries, 1/4 cup of Granolla and 1/2 a cup of plain Greek Yogurt
Tuesday: 2 Eggs and 2 Pieces of Uncured, Organic Maple Bacon
Wednesday: 1 full cup of Kashi Cereal (I need to pick a new brand... Kashi isn't nearly as good for you as you'd think)
Thursday: 1 Breakfast bar (assorted types) and an Apple
Friday: 1/8 Cup of Cranberries, 1/4 Cup of Granolla and 1/2 Cup of Plain Grek Yogurt
Saturday: 2 Eggs and 2 Pieces of Uncured, Organic Maple Bacon
Sunday 1 Full cup of Cereal (I need new fucking cereal)

note to self: never buy Kashi, it will taste like ash and sadness.

What kind are you guys eating? o_O I eat Kashi Go Lean because it's got an unusually high amount of protein for a cereal. It's not exactly high flavor but it's nothing some honey won't fix.

The woman from the Kashi commercial that's on right now bugs me. Her teeth are too big and she smiles far too often. It makes me suspicious.

Oatmeal is a good cereal alternative. Fairly quick to prepare and not too much fuss/mess. Plus, you get the 'hot breakfast' feel as an added bonus!

Not to be confused with a "Hot Lunch".
