If you know what the symbol in my avatar means, you can see how this video makes me smile so much.

Well tbh, the letter from the guy is hardly bullying. Was it possibly insensitive, sure, bullying, no.

He politely said, "Hey fatass, get off the TV. I don't want my kids to think how you live is OK." That lives right next to, "I'm OK with you being gay but its confusing to kids." Its not only insulting to the intelligence of those around you but the intelligence of the people you're claiming to protect. You're not really far away from suggesting everyone on TV be thin, attractive, Caucasian and straight and if a woman, young. What are you looking for from local news other than local news?

Local news is a busy job. Really, really busy. They spend most of the day just preparing for the six and eleven o'clock news. They're not just spoonfed like cable and major networks are, these people tend to engage in real journalism more often. Doing the local beat is rigorous work. If that woman has the position to issue edirorials like that, she probably doesn't have a great deal of time to go jogging and do yoga or whatever.

Do we need people telling other people you need to be thin for your job?

Unrelated but this made me smile.

I would like to see data on how harmful to society obesity is. I expect there are effects in things like lost productivity and additional load on healthcare facilities, but I'm doubtful as to whether those externalities are significant enough to bother condemning.

It's more a case of people refusing to look at the big picture and just focus on one or two issues because it's convenient to just push one or two issues, especially when it lets people be judgemental. Obesity is one of the things that people claim is straining the NHS in the UK but looking at the big picture it's clear that this is not the only thing:

What about chronic mismanagement and shoddy reforms? What about chronic understaffing and underfunding?
What about the Conservatives pushing through reforms that turned the NHS into a splintered, split bunch of factions that compete with each other to hit targets and get more funding at the cost of quality of patient care?
What about other poor lifestyle choices?
What about the fact that the UK has a rapidly aging population where the number of people dependant on the NHS is only going to increase?
                What about health tourism?
What about the fact that the NHS has a different set of rules for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland?
What about all of the endless red tape?
What about all of the managers deployed by the NHS that serve no purpose other than to make it appear as though goals and targets are being met while driving down efficiency and pushing up costs?

You can't just blame one thing and say "X is happening because of Y". Correlation does not equal causation. Try telling that to the media though, especially in the UK. News media in the UK is owned by one of two people:
                1. Rupert Murdoch
                2. Pornographers

And people wonder why Brits prefer to get their news from topical panel shows on the TV and Radio.

I can't really think back to a time where I met a fat guy and said to myself, "Man, I want to be fat like him." It was more about whether people shared a common interest or were fun to be around. I think the only time it even crossed my mind was when I invited all my friends from the arcade to come to my place when Soul Calibur II launched on all platforms. Then I realized how small my apartment was and how creaky the floor could get. But that was really only two fat guys in a group of like eight people. Probably could have happened with any assortment of eight people.

I will admit, however, that when I worked McDonalds in college I remembered this one guy that ordered:

                  20 piece chicken nuggets
                  Three arch deluxe sandwiches
An order of supersized french fries
                  Two apple pies
                  Two fudge sundaes with peanuts
And a super size Diet Coke.

I guess he preferred the taste of Diet Coke, because there's no one in their right mind that would think it would cancel all that out.

Well, he was tidy about it. I didn't find so much as a sesame seed or smear of ketchup at his table when he left. If nothing else, he was efficient even if he wasn't in his right mind. The real question for me was if it was ethical to sell him all that but McDonalds doesn't really let me mediate such things. I think he could have stopped after the 20-piece.

The best I could ever get on mediating was telling the people who pressed the horn at the drive thru speaker to piss off because that is my ear, motherfucker. If I ask you to wait a moment, I mean it.

Let me reset what bullying is so we are all understanding. Oddly enough I believe we have all been bullied in the past but some of us are having troubles grasping what bullying is...

                            1. the act of intimidating a weaker person to make them do something
                            2. a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people.

Now if you haven't read the letter from this guy in it's entirety, please stop trolling and go post somewhere else. If you have read it, you will see this guy is in no way trying to intimidate this lady, and this lady is not smaller or weaker. He's giving his opinion in a polite matter of fact way. He didn't post this on the internet nor did he try and draw attention to himself or this issue, that was done by this lady's husband. He merely posted his opinion, agree with it or disagree ( i disagree btw) but he's entitled to his opinion, and his opinion is in no way bullying her.

Bully or not, he most certainly applied the GIFT most gratuitously.

She construed it to be a form of bullying so she could tie it to the mention of Bullying Awareness Month (I'm pretty sure that local news exists solely for two reasons: the spreading of misery, and the declaration of time). Quite frankly, I fail to see where she's wrong about that.

The guy that emailed her is an obvious shmuck and has too much time on his hands. He more than likely did this to try and get some air time, which she happily obliged by and put it on the local news, which in my opinion was all her fault. Like it or not, she is in the public eye, being a news person on tv, and like it or not she will get emails like this. She handled this email extremely poorly, and by trying to tie it in to national bullying month makes this even more sad on her part. The professional way to handle an idiots email like this is to send it to the spam folder. The WORST POSSIBLE WAY to handle an email from someone that is trying to get air time is BY PUTTING IT ON THE LOCAL TELEVISION. Now you can argue as to whether or not this is his actual opinion or whether or not he was just trying to get a rise out of this news chick, but does it really fucking matter??? Point of the matter is, being in the public eye will open your email account up to getting emails from people that dont llike your opinions, your looks, or whatever. If youre a public figure and your email is public, it's something you're opening the door for. DEAL WITH IT!
