Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.
Re: Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.
I've started watching Star Trek TNG from the very beginning one more time. Just a few episodes in and I just realized it was actually awesome-er than I remembered. Being older and seeing other things I missed when I was younger makes watching the series again permanently-smiling worthy.

Re: Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.
So I was taking a walk around the block today and this old lady getting her mail stops me to chat. She's 90 years old and is using a walker. She also happens to live alone in a large house and, aside from a home aide that comes by, she seems fairly independent. She looks at me and says "Son, don't ever get old."
Two thoughts going through mind:
1) Not sure I should heed that. There's only one alternative to getting old.
2) I'd be pretty damn lucky to be as independent as her when I'm 90. If I even live to 90.
So she stops me and starts telling me her life story of how she met her husband and her family and started poor working as a seamstress. And how she was determined to be independent after having to live in a nursing home for 8 months, which she described as a prison. She also talked about how she kept every correspondence she ever had with her not-yet-husband when he went off to war and apparently has 3 large notebooks full of them.
Her story kind of dragged on a bit. But it was cute and it was nice seeing this elderly lady who clearly has lived a good life. Made me smile.

I'm expecting great things from you, young padowan.
I'm pretty mediocre/average all things considered. I'll draw something, look at it, say it sucks, and quit for 6 months. I'm going to make an active effort to stick to it this time around.
