Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.
God of War is a game for idiots. They can applaud what they like, we don't care.
The other two I know nothing off, but it may be that the writing was better or worse in certain cases, and these summaries fail to capture some of the finer details of the plots.
The second is Last of Us. Gameplay was fun, and it had petty graphics if you're into that sort of thing, but the story and characters bored me to tears, and I hhonestly did not give two fucks about anyone in the game by the ending.
The last one of Persona 3 FES. Yukari, the character pictured basically acts differently depending on if you're male or female. If you are male she basically has issues with opening up due to a lot of past trauma and severe daddy issues. Plus she has to put up with Junpei on a daily basis. If you are female she is actually pretty open and friendly with you.
Basically in The Answer (The game's expansion), she blames herself for what happens to the main character at the end of Persona 3, and intends to travel back in time to do it. Because this is a Shin Megami Tensei game, interfering with the Jesus figure will always doom humanity to enslavement by angels, being snacks for demons, or in the case of the Persona games, doomed to extinction due to crushing despair spawning mass suicide cults, and serial killers that push people into TVs.
Yukari gets over it, learns from it, and becomes a better person for it. The romance angle is played up because canonically, P3's main character is male, and you pretty much are forced to date your female party members in the original P3 (P3 Portable fixes this).
Then again Persona 3: The Answer might as well be called "Everyone in the original game's party makes a stupid mistake, and quickly learns from it and becomes a better person because character development is a good thing.".
Kratos, and however the fuck you played in The Last of Us. Seriously, that guy is so forgettable I forgot his fucking name. He is basically Neir but an utterly selfish prick. Anyway, they get no development, do utterly dickish and selfish things and get praised because fuck all logic when it comes to video games actually having good stories and character development.

I've yet to find any evidence to suggest that Tumblr is frequented by anything other than 14 year old girls that won't shut the fuck up about Sherlock or Doctor Who, and wouldn't know that feminism, racism, sexsim or homophobia is, if concepts can dance naked in front of people.
Re: Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.
Really depends on who you follow.
I don't see a lot of Superwholock (yes that's a thing) because I don't follow a lot of those blogs. I don't see a lot of social justice crap because I don't follow those blogs. Of course from time to time it pops up but like anything else I don't like on the internet, I ignore it and move along.

Posted my bitch about the bf ditching our workout today, went anyway. Took my second round of progress pics, and I see visible differences!
Piss on him. I'm not losing weight for him, I'm losing weight for me, and if he doesn't want to come along then it's his loss. (and yes, I am still just a little bit angry).
Re: Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.
My friend knows how much I need to get out of the house. She was looking for an apartment in my area and willing to spend $1200 on a single-bedroom. She offered me to find and pay $1200 for a two-bedroom apartment, letting me have the second room and only requiring me to pay anything after $1200.
Re: Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.
Fans hate Yukari because she's a snob, angsty and talks shit about others behind thier backs. Sure, she changes, but those qualities generally remain in the end. What that meme posits is fan theorycraft based on an assumed canon. All choices are canon in the SMT multiverse, though.
Kratos' direction was a travesty because the original GoW was written and played out as the Greek tragedy it was meant to be. The people who handled the sequel didn't seem to get that, which is why all the games after it suck.
TLOU, I skipped reading that. But from what I know and have seen Joel is a selfish dick.
As for tumblr - People finding others with similar experiences via social media and feeling less lonely or just creating thier own personal echo chamber to vomit into? Color me shocked. People on Facebook and Twitter or forums NEVER do that.
I use it for as a news feed about people and topics that interest me. Apparently I'm doing it wrong, I'll go add Anita Sarkeesian now.
Re: Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.
I rather enjoyed TLOU tyvm...
I won't deny that Joel was a bit of a tool, but I wouldn't write him off completely. Where the story basically destroys itself is the end of the University Campus. Not gonna say what happens exactly only that there's not a chance in hell anyone would get up from an injury like that, even in today's conditions much less the fucking zombie apocalypse. It wasn't the only instance, but definitely the most egregious.
A friend of mine and I *LOVE* to play/watch Zombie games precisely for the sake of pointing out all the stupidity, in part to help better formulate our own plans lol but a good part of it is just ripping on the writers. The Walking Dead in particular has provided loads more fun than the actual game itself when we play together (in that series' case part of it stems from comparing our differing playstyles).
To give an example, in TLOU it actually starts at that same level - just a bunch of random jerk-offs who attack you and (spoilery) chase you later on in the game at various points. We just look at each other laughing and pointing out that no sane group would do this. Fuck whoever gave the order, you can not afford to waste that much manpower and resources just getting petty revenge, especially when the body count keeps rising it's so absurd to the point of hilarity.
Re: Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.
The Last of Us is an awesome game but it has one massive flaw: every single NPC that you run across is far more interesting and memorable than the guy you are actually playing. Joel is so generic they could literally have had a nameless and silent protagonist in the game and it would have made no difference. I literally could not give two shits about Joel while playing through the game. The best parts of The Last of Us were where you got to play Ellie, and actually care about what happened to the character on screen.
There's a very good reason why the DLC cuts out Joel entirely and has you just playing Ellie. That and the only dick move Ellie pulls off in the entire game is never botherin to tell you she has a fucking pocket knife after seeing you scavenge for shivs for most of the game.
Re: Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.
Oh I don't disagree there at all, Joel was still pretty bland (not to mention an ASSHOLE) and both his daughter (Sarah I think?) and Ellie were far more interesting. Hell even Bill had more personality and he was really messed up.
You know what Joel reminds me of actually? The father from heavy rain shouting for his stupid kid in the opening sequence only a lot older and meaner - dipshit had about the same mentality. Oh and there's a live action movie coming as well that's going to be sticking almost 100% to the source material as well which begs the question "Why?!"
But you know the scene I'm talking abut then right if you've beaten it? Where he falls down near the end and yeah.... no. No one's getting up from that. Even the DLC had some funny moments too (not literally but in the context of what I wrote before) like Ellie bandaging him up and looking for meds etc.... Again, you can't fix a wound like that and good fucking luck finding any meds, let alone any that haven't expired given it's been TWENTY YEARS.
See, here's the thing. I get that sometimes certain aspects of reality have to be suspended for the sake of the gameplay or whatever, but when you have a game that's trying to be at least semi-realistic, and that also factors heavily into the plot, then having stupid shit like that in the game just destroys the immersion.
Great game, terribly brutal at various points with an interesting enough story/premise just God-awful writing/storyboarding for some parts.
Plot Spoilers
You don't just take a steel rebar (and it was probably rusty to say the least, 20 years of filth and whatnot...) through your midsection like that. That was literally the single worst, most retarded scene in the whole game and one of the worst plot twists I've ever seen in a game that's trying to portray a serious story. Fuck you, Joel's dead. There's not a chance in hell he got up after that, not without whatever's left of his intestines spilling out everywhere. Oh and let's not forget Ellie taking that tire iron to the skull while trying to defend him and get him out of the campus. I don't care how badass she is, no 13 year old girl's taking a hit like that and shrugging it off.
Oh yeah and then he falls off the damn horse to boot. Then in the DLC you see her flip him over and put some kind of duct tape or something on him... yeah, as if that'd hold. And then when he finally gets up again in the main game it's like what, at least a month or so later? So he was in a coma and somehow didn't die while.... I mean JESUS CHRIST DID THEY EVEN REMOTELY THINK ABOUT THIS?! Terrible, just terrible writing.
So on a happier note, I *finally* found a way to beat that f'ing Mega Tonberry and I got the Mascot Dressphere as well, and 5 bold chocobos that can hit level 5. So I should be able to get the GG that gives break damage limit now and make it to Trema. My main concern now is actually beating him - as well as oversouling (and beating) Paragon, ugh. Stupid catnip nerf. Would be 10000000x easier if I'd actually bothered with the pokemon nonsense but I didn't so gotta make due. At least I'm progressing again :D
