Re: Little things that make you smile - the anti-peeve thread.

2 weeks ago (on the 16th) I approached (Midboss) and (Big Boss) to inquire about the possibility of being either reduced to part time employment or transferred to the ramp instead of Operations in an effort to find a mutually beneficial solution to my multiple employment situation. During the meeting, after proposing my ideas to the both of them, I was asked by (Big Boss) “Why would you want to stay with a company that you trash talk on Facebok?â€. The question initially confused me, but later made me very upset. When she asked me, I responded “I’ve done no such thing. Who told you I did?†to which she only answered “It doesn’t matterâ€. Shortly after the meeting ended without resolution, I returned to the office and spoke with (Midboss) again (who was the only one in the office at the time) to ask who would say such things about me. He simply told me “What matters is that you didn’t say it. That’s allâ€.
By the end of the day I had scoured through my Facebook to search for anything that might look as if it could cause such an accusation. I found nothing of the sort dating back as far as 5 years.
At this point I was pretty upset, but willing to let go of the whole thing since it had no effect on anything I was going through… and because the accusation was unfounded and clearly meant as a hurtful attack on me from someone unknown.
Yesterday (the 30th), I arrived at work and ran into a fellow employee of the company who was initially surprised to see me because he was under the impression that I had been fired. He quickly informed me that he had come to this conclusion based on his conversation with (Big Boss) the previous afternoon. He told me that she had approached him and asked him if he would show her my otherwise private Facebook so that she could confirm her suspicions that I had in fact been badmouthing the company on it. He then told me that he refused to do so because it would be an invasion of my privacy and a betrayal of our friendship to do so.
I was under the impression that I had squashed the rumor and that the issue was in the past and not to be brought up again. This new information makes me feel harassed and uncomfortable. I find it highly inappropriate that my (Big Boss) would seek to investigate my (or any other employee’s) private Facebook account in such a sneaky manner in order to seek out proof of a rumor. It further makes me uncomfortable to speculate on what she may have planned to do with any information she may have found there.
I keep my life outside of work separate for good reason. Her attempt to pry into it is completely uncalled for.
Respectfully submitted,
