True enough. For some reason I thought I would need a character that wasn't already there.

"Deep" doesn't mean it makes me cry, just that it makes me think. I'm not even emotionally invested in Zelda 1, it's not a game that's aged gracefully. But I liked that he was able to create a narrative out of that seemingly random scene, and that he animated it to capture the atmosphere of the flickering torches in the darkness. It also fits in well with Zelda games being coming of age stories; the old man's foreshadowing a loss of innocence. The sword being a curse could also have a second meaning:

It's not exactly the best thing ever, and I don't really think it appeals to non-Zelda fans, but I think it was well-executed.

See, what bugs me about it is that it tried to add that depth to what has otherwise become a rather vapid meme.

I think he was just looking back and fleshing out how epic the game felt to people when they were kids playing it. The Zelda series - particularly in later years has conveyed a great emotional depth in its simplicity of expressing it. This comic hits the level of Ganodorf's Wind Waker monologue in just a few panels and refreshes heavily recycled meme in the process. What's not to like?

This video kinda gets there with Ganondorf monologue:

Scene with Professor Hojo and Aeris when he traps her in an enclosure with Red XIII in order to get them to breed.

It was to create a speciman with ancient blood that would last longer as Red X's tribe live for hundreds of years.

Hojo's reasoning was that they were both going extinct and was trying to lend a hand... but honestly he just wanted to create a test subject with a longer lifespan so he could test on it longer.

                      Jarre beat me, yo.

What? I thought he had Red XIII attack her, not fuck her. What the fuck.

Childhood repressed memories perhaps? I was late to the FFVII party, so that scene really caught me off guard. The 90's were crazier than I remembered.

So I was playing through Psychonauts, just about finishing it, when the character Sheegor shows up. Never took notice to her voice when I played it years back, but now upon closer inspection... of course. It would be you, Tara Strong.
