It's not on Netflix in the UK so I'm not 100% sure if it's also on Netflix in the US. The DVDs aren't hard to find over here though so if you have a DVD player than can play Region 2 DVDs you can get Series 1-8 for under $50 if you import them from the UK. Series 9 is something that the writers and fans pretend never happened. Series 10 is easily found on Youtube.

Series 7-9 were done with a different writing team and basically ran into the same problem as Evangelion where it was obvious that every single episode had no budget.

The first five series balanced comedy with moments of genuine pathos: the crew being lost and alone in deep space, developing as characters, and learning to cope with their lives in the face of their plight. Series 7-8 dropped all of this: Series 7 got rid of Rimmer, added a laugh track and focused too much on drama with several episodes that genuinely were not funny. Series 8 kept the laugh track, brought the crew of the Red Dwarf back for some kind of ass pull moment and became focused on slapstick, losing much of its dry humour from the earlier series in the process.

Series 9 attempted to be Post Modern Bladerunner rip-off where everyone is transported to 2009 and Red Dwarf was really a TV Show all along, which really didn't fit the kind of show it was, so while the viewing figures were high (because it was the first new Red Dwarf episode for 10 years) you will be hard pressed to find someone that actually liked it.

Series 10 was widely loved though. Episode 5 was the only episode that wasn't regarded as a return to form but it was still enjoyable anyway.

Pretty much the first thing I played and finished on my Vita.
