Re: Michigan passes pro-bullying law
Did you guys actually read the bill that passed through the house? I went to the link provided in this post and read it:
"The board of a school district or intermediate school district or board of directors of a public school academy SHALL adopt and implement a policy prohibiting bullying or harassment at school, as defined in this section. The legislature encourages a board or board of directors to include in its policy provisions concerning education, parental involvement, reporting, investigation, and intervention."
Sooo... As i read it, it's a policy prohibiting bullying, not supporting it...75: Sam, Nin, Blm, Thf, Pld, Cor, Rdm

Re: Michigan passes pro-bullying law
If you're talking about HB 4580 that I linked on page 1, that wasn't the bill the article was talking about. I linked it incorrectly. The bill in question was actually Senate Bill 137, which was an anti-bullying law, but contained an exception for statements of "sincerely held moral and religious belief," which was the point of contention. In other words, if you think God hates queers and a particular boy is going to experience graphic torment for the rest of eternity, psychologically tormenting him by reminding him of your beliefs every day would be A-OK under that "anti-bullying" law. The rest of the text was fine, but that one line just destroyed it.
In a happier update, a better provision was passed in Michigan lately which now bears Matt's name instead. HOMEFRONT COLUMN: Kevin Epling, father of boy named in Michigan’s anti-bullying law, would amend law to address cyberbullying - Opinion - Heritage Newspapers

I read Taskmages post on the first page that links to what he was referencing as the law that promotes bullying as long as it is a view based upon their faith. I went to the link, read the bill, and now where did it say that. It was exactly what it said it was, an anti-bullying law, which is great. Taskmage then admited that he posted the incorrect link, and then poste the correct link. I read that one and saw the clause he was referring to. Sooo...

Re: Michigan passes pro-bullying law
I think he was saying that bullies aren't as bad as they are made out to be, and is asking if you have ever been bullied.
To answer him... Yes, yes I have been bullied. Have I thought about committing suicide because of it? Yes, yes I have. I actually had to go to therapy because of it. All because of my tourrets, stutter, and my speech impediment. Even to this day I am still afraid of going NEAR a school.

Re: Michigan passes pro-bullying law
I think most kids have been bullied in some sort of way, and yes it doesn't make you feel good. Anything that gets implemented to help deter these type of actions should be welcomed by society.75: Sam, Nin, Blm, Thf, Pld, Cor, Rdm
