I'm Swimming for Equality - Please Help

Hi, Folks --

This coming Saturday, I will be participating in a Swim for Equality, swimming 1.7 miles in open water off the coast of Malibu, CA to raise money to fight discrimination which is based on sexual orientation.

I need your help. Not with the swimming part - I've got that down pat. I'm still a bit under my fundraising goal, so that's where I need help. If you believe that all Americans should have equal rights no matter what their sexual orientation, please visit my fundraising page & make a small (or large if you want ) donation. Every little bit helps!

How much time do I have until the deadline? I'm a bit strapped for cash for the next 2 days, but I'll donate what I can this friday if it's still within the time frame. I just want to make sure it will be a direct contribution to your goal.

How much is your goal and how far off are you from it? <--- Nevermind, I followed the link. Not sure I can do 800... maybe $20.00. I'll post back here and let you know when I throw my money in the hat.

This is a great cause... and unlike the ACLU... I assume I won't be recieving any harrassing phone calls every few months practically demanding more money from me.

Also: Fucking Greg Louganis is swimming in this? Man... I wish I lived in CA and could actually join in. I swam varsity in high school and for some of college. I'm pretty sure I got a little rusty since then... but our practices would be more than 5 miles a day... I bet I could still do 1.7... or at least 1... maybe .5 and we go to Dennys... you know what? Fuck .5... I'm going to Dennys!

Donations are being accepted up until two weeks after the swim. The swim is this Saturday -- so by the end of the first week of October would work. The link in my post should take you directly to my fundraising page.

Every little bit helps. Really. Sure - twenty dollars or more would be great ... but putting together enough $5 and $10 donations adds up.

I haven't tried gaygamers.com -- never even knew it existed, actually. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable joining a new site just to beg for money, even if it IS for a good cause. If you're a regular there though & would consider sharing my link, that would be fabulous!

I realize I'm not going to get to my fundraising goal, but I've also realized that it's ok. I've still raised over $1200 & I'm proud of myself.

I think I'm going to get the chance to meet Greg Louganis at the after-swim party & I am STOKED. He's one of the reasons I learned how to dive (albeit poorly) a few years back. Gary Hall Jr, an Olympic medalist, is going to be doing the swim on Saturday -- so I should get to meet him, too. I know I'm going to be a little star-struck.
