FDA conducts armed sting on Amish farmer- for selling milk | Washington Times Communities

Seriously? Just let people drink what they want, unless the liquid can give them some sort of transferable illness.

So you're against unpasteurized milk, making yourself in favor of the FDA's actions to uphold laws requiring it.

Sounds like a case of law enforcement enforcing a law. How unheard of.

Yeah I'm not seeing the problem.

A little funny maybe, going after the Amish of all people, but yeah... Go cry to Ran Paul.

The law shouldn't exist. People should be free to make their own choices about what they put into their bodies, even if they might be stupid choices. It's the same argument as for decriminalization of marijuana except nobody's predisposed to think that raw milk ruins people's lives.

This seems like a well balanced article written from a neutral perspective, which I'm sure accurately represents both sides of the issue.

These laws make you wonder how people survived drinking milk for millennia before Pasteur said "Look guys, we can pwn germs. Amirite?".

You fail to see the entire argument. It's not like drinking unpasteurized milk puts YOU at any harm, only the person drinking it (potentially.)

Then link me to the other perspective instead of being snide. Thanks.

A little odd, but they did violate the law as it was more about transporting it across state lines than it was about it simply being unpasteurized. The article is definitely skewed, as are most "health" sources. It isn't the raw milk that is bad for you, but rather the microbes associated with such milk. Raw milk is often a source of a bacteria that causes undulant fever and also can be contaminated with e.coli, salmonella, etc... Pasteurizing milk does not detract from its nutritional value. Since it doesn't take away any nutritional value, why drink it raw and risk becoming sick due to it?

I understand the whole idea of personal freedom, and by all means go drink all the raw milk you want, but the laws against it were created to prevent the ignorant from getting sick from raw milk.

As far as Pot goes, I still don't understand for the life of me why it's illegal.

Alcohol & Tobacco are fine, but somehow pot is bad...

For the record, I don't smoke it or use any other drugs, and rarely drink. But name even ONE violent crime caused by someone who was high on pot, or someone who was killed by the second hand smoke from it. Yes, it has serious long-term effects, but so does every drug. So Pick your poison. I'm sick of hearing the bullshit gateway drug excuse as well - unlike most drugs, Marijuana does not inflict a chemical dependency/addiction upon the user. There is a very small percentage of people who do, but it's marginal at best. Actually, technically I don't think Tobacco is addictive either, and it makes me wonder why nicotine simply hasn't been outlawed.

Anyway - Tax it, regulate it, use it responsibly and take away a lot of the power these Mexican cartels have.

Nicotine is naturally created by the tobacco plant. It is a compound that is a natural insecticide, much like caffeine. Tobacco plants today are raised to produce more nicotine.

As for weed... smoking anything is inherently bad for you as the particles get stuck in your lungs and it takes a while before it gets cleared out. Therefore, second hand smoke is bad as well. Granted, some substances stick in the lungs better than others and also take longer to be removed. I also can't say anything about its addictive properties. I've read journal articles showing evidence for, and others against an addictive potential. That might be a result of the governments' very tight control over scientific research involving drugs, private interests mingling or even cultural stigma placed upon the drug. I suppose it will take a little more time till clarification comes about.

I personally believe it should be legalized and taxed the hell out of. Not only would it be a good source of revenue, but it would also be a serious blow to the drug cartels of Mexico. I believe alcohol is far more detrimental to society as a whole, but my view might change once the effects of widespread weed use becomes noticeable if at all.

Smoking weed and driving is as bad as drinking and driving. While I see no reason to keep weed illegal, I feel we should solve this whole driving while intoxicated issue before it's made worse.

Weed has been shown to be physically addictive through mild withdrawal effects. It's also been shown to hamper the mechanics behind memory creation, which is why they tend not to remember much. It's also been observed to produce an amotivational syndrome.

Personally, I wouldn't mind it so much if it weren't typically airborne. If you want to drink a beer, I don't have to participate in that, but if you want to smoke weed, that's going to effect everybody around you. If they wanted to eat a pot-brownie, fine, but don't offer me any.
