I think the main problem I have with Weiner is that part of being competent at your job means not doing something boneheaded to sabotage your ability to perform it. Weiner's stupid tweet falls under the heading of monumentally boneheaded. He should have known better, and now he (and the constituents who were depending on him to do a good job for them when they voted him into office) are now paying the price for his stupidity.

Oh I agree, and that's why I won't defend what he did, only that he shouldn't necessarily lose his job over it. And all the people getting on his case about it - Yeah ok, like you assholes don't have any skeletons in your closets. It disgusts me to see so many other politicians, including his own party members acting all high & mighty.

And wasn't there a similar incident with a Republican recently too? I forget his name but they were talking about it on CNN yesterday, saying that there was absolutely little to no outrage in that case and almost no preassure to resign. he's still in office right now, in fact.


I have to wonder if this is black mail, because apparently this was all leaked by 1 guy, who allegedly has more "XXX Photos" hidden away...

I think it's unfortunate, funny, and, predictable. If Americans don't get a political 'tabloid' scandal every six months we might actually realize how much we are getting boned by our corporate-run aristocracy. It's absolutely astonishing to see what people choose from the mix to get fired up about. Meanwhile things that actually do directly affect them adversely smoothly sail under the radar cuz there's a picture of a cock waved in front of their face.

And Newt Gingrich (a presidential hopeful currently) makes them each look like boyscouts as well. There are just as many fucksquats on one side as the other.

I really think that if Weiner had fessed up from the very beginning, he'd still be in Congress with little or no controversy -- especially since none of his transgressions involved having his naughty-bits physically anywhere near any of the women he was sexting (as far as we know, anyway). It was the blatant lying about it, and the fact that he was being such a jerk when he was lying about it that got him into such hot water.

I feel badly for his constituents. He WAS willing to stand up and fight for the non-wealthy folks & I'm not sure if they'll get a replacement (if they get one at all -- there's talk of his district either vanishing or combining with another district as the state goes through the redistricting mandated by the Census results) who will be good for them.

I also feel badly for his wife.

Cool, so Weiner is going out and a corrupt bastard will come in. But who cares if he fucks us over, steals money from us and gives it to big business as long as he's not sending penis pics? That's OBVIOUSLY the much worse offense.

I'll say this for the last time. FDR. Mistresses. Kennedy. Mistresses. They did alot worse than Weiner did, but I suppose we should overlook that whole new deal thing and focus solely on FDR's mistresses right? That's the most important thing, right?

I think his point is more that the mistresses did not prevent them from being great presidents.

Public knowledge of said mistresses certainly would've prevented anything from getting done, but not the mistresses themselves.

Thus, the American people have their priorities screwed on backwards. These are public employees, and thus, we shouldn't be prying in to their personal lives as a basis to pressure them out of their jobs. Rather, we should focus more on making sure that they're actually doing the jobs we're paying them to do.

Unfortunately, sensationalist media all too focused on making "non-factual" statements to manipulate public opinion and get their guys in to office (sorry, a minor rant slipped from that and made this sentence in to a run-on) . . . they basically ensure that far too little of that proper public focus is actually being paid.

I think the more cogent point is that there are 30 teams in the NHL and by definition 29 of those cities don't win the championship each and every year, but you don't see the others with flaming masses that used to be cars because of it.

I'm sure some of it got blown out of proportion, but when you've got people so upset over a sporting event that they're willing to torch other people's property - which they might be depending on for their livelihood - that's rather beyond the pale. Plus the fact that apparently no one tried to STOP them in the first place.

You know, I think I see the point Dak is making.

Like the pot smoking, the act itself isn't really that bad, but it can and will be used against you by your opponents to undermine you, even in completely unrelated debates. Anytime any debate comes up in the legislature, people try to equate it with morals, not good practice. Budgetary cuts aren't done out of need as often as they are out of "high taxes hurt business morale!", "redistribution of wealth is socialism!", "welfare encourages laziness!", and so on. Let alone issues like gun control, reproductive issues.

Can anyone here imagine Weiner standing up for, say, same-sex marriage rights without being blasted for 'hedonism' by a Republican? Could he support the right to have an abortion without being said to have loose morals? He's undermined his own credibility, opened his party and any position he takes up to cheap shots, whether or not his acts are truly reprehensible, his ability to fill his post and represent his constituents has hugely decreased.

Either that or Dak is just a cock.
