Re: Official Bored at Work / Off-Topic Chat Thread II
If I'm honest this is why I tend to wait until the series is finished before discussing stuff with people. I've noted earlier on how events in the books and events in the series don't sync up perfectly because each chapter is told from a character's personal point of view. i've accidentally blown spoilers for Series 2 and 3 before because I mentioned something later in the same chapter as the event they were discussing, but it didn't happen until 1-2 episodes later.
Books 4 and 5 will be a clusterfuck though. They take place at the exact same time, just with different sets of characters. I have no idea if it will even be possible to discuss those when the next series airs without spoiling things because of that.
And people wonder why the people who read the books are always deliberately vague. it's not smugness, it's just events sync up horribly in the adaptation, and we don't want to accidentally reveal spoilers too soon.
Re: Official Bored at Work / Off-Topic Chat Thread II
On a completely different note, I had a dream last night that was sortof an Orwellian sci-fi, only Big Brother was an omnipotent AI like AM from I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream, only with an unempathetic sense of benevolence like Kyubei from Madoka Magika. She was trying to enforce an advanced but stagnant utopia like Nephilopolis from Dresden Codak or The Axiom from WALL·E, in a dense urban setting like Ravnica or Coruscant, where everything was a cool blue. Nice work, brain. Critical success.
Re: Official Bored at Work / Off-Topic Chat Thread II
My son just made a post about his favorite Pokemon(s? - do we pluralize Pokemon?) and I have no idea what he's talking about because Pokemon is one of those things I never got into and now I'm like, shit, I gotta learn about this stuff for my kids.
Re: Official Bored at Work / Off-Topic Chat Thread II
Good fucking luck. I was there right when it started and I couldn't tell you what any of them are after Gold and Silver. It got out of hand right quick.

Only if you're a cat.

Re: Official Bored at Work / Off-Topic Chat Thread II
Pretty much all kids are like that. It comes and goes in phases. Three years ago my son was obsessed with Wall-E, two years ago it was Battalion Wars II, and last time I went it was Guitar Hero and Saint Seiya.

See I don't even know. Maybe they have shitty Pokemon in Mexico? lol
This was his FB post asking people to say which were their favorites so I'm like ... uh ...
These are the legendaries from Jhoto ("Gen II," Gold/Silver/Crystal), so cid would be able to relate to those.
Clockwise from top-left: Suicune (Water), Entei (Fire), Raikou (Electric), Ho-Oh (Fire/Flying), and Lugia (Psychic/Flying). The last two appear on the box art for (Heart)Gold and (Soul)Silver, respectively.
Isn't this a ridiculously huge thing in Mexico in particular?
Also cid: even if the Gen II legendaries were bland (a statement with which I somewhat disagree), at least I can count them all on one hand. I don't think both hands would be sufficient for all the dang legendaries from Gen IV.

Yes, but I think they were bigger in the 80s. My ex-husband was obsessed with it and tried to get me hooked, but then sat there watching it in Spanish (when I didn't speak Spanish at all) and wondered why I just tuned it out ... I'm not sure if they air them now or if my kids were just watching the DVDs from my ex.
Re: Official Bored at Work / Off-Topic Chat Thread II
Up until Gen III, the Legendaries were all kind of bland though. They were just one of a kind Pokemon you could only encounter once per game, and they had nothing to do with the game, storyline, and a lot were pretty useless even in ingame only teams (Moltres, Articuno, Entei, Regigigas and Colbarion say hi), due to easier to catch Pokemon just being more useful, learning more HMs, or people just liking them more.
Crystal at least attempted to put them into the storyline somewhat. Actually Crystal is widely regarded as one of the best game sin the series because of things like that.
Re: Official Bored at Work / Off-Topic Chat Thread II
Let's be real honest for a minute, the storylines in Pokemon are garbage and not what anyone is there for. They're there as a barebones means to keep the gameplay going.
Also: stop talking smack about Articuno. It was a beast back in Blue.

Rock Slide, GG .
And Gen VI's plotline is pretty fun. You are essentially given a full group of travelling companions to go around with, so it ends up being pretty character driven. Sadly only Shauna and your rival are the only really memorable "Party Members". It is a nice step forwards though and seeing those guys running around the different zones you visit does help make the game seem more alive. Gen V's storyline was pretty fun too if you are a fan of the Earthbound series. BW and BW2 were the best Earthbound games I have played for a while.
