More on book vs TV show. I also sometimes wonder if there are genuine advantages that books have over visual storytelling mediums like television, film, or live action theater. Or is that just some myth book fans perpetuate to seem relevant?

Just something I often think about when I hear that overly self-important cliche "The book is better."

Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not.

Usually, the books are more detailed than their TV or movie counterparts have liberty to be, because obviously no one wants to watch a five-hour movie. I've been trying to consume both with Game of Thrones but I don't have a lot of time and the books are long.

But the thing I think that happens is that people generally prefer the first way they consumed something. If you hear a song one day, and the next day you hear the cover of it, you'll like the original better. This is also true if you happen to have heard the cover first then hear the original, in a lot of cases, you'll prefer the cover because you heard it first. Obviously not always true, but I've seen that a few times where people automatically like something better just because "it was there first."

I'm personally liking reading the books after having seen the series, it helps me visualize people and things a lot better. Not to say that I have no imagination, just that I feel more immersed somehow.

And on a completely unrelated note, I've been on the clock for 20 minutes and I haven't even opened my e-mail yet. Not that I miss it. Whoops.

It's about length. The television shows and movies condense or skip things that can be very enriching.

To add, I knew it was coming, just not when exactly, though I expected with the popular nomenclature of the event in question I kind of suspected something would go down. But even knowing what was coming, I didn't expect it the way it happened.

The episodes do not disappoint, and I've been very impressed with their handling of these types of events.

Just as I'm reading A Song of Ice and Fire to have working knowledge of the series, now you guys are beginning to make me wonder if I'm the only one here not watching RuPaul's Drag Race. My friends don't talk about it, though I get the feeling many of them watch it too.
