Trying to decide if its been long enough since the flooding in Colorado to start emailing professors about a research assistant position at CU without sounding like "Hey, I'm sure you're more concerned with your missing belongings or loved ones, but can I have a research assistant position next year?"

I would just comment on it openly; "I know this is a bad time, and I hope everything is fine" etc. etc., make it clear that you're understanding of them having other priorities.

I've had a weird day.

I met my ex last night with a classmate, and one of her coworkers. Mediation, you know. So we talk for awhile, work things out, walk classmate home, go to the city's equivalent of central park to talk with my ex. Most things seem smoothed over, she wants to stay over at my place and I figure, what the hell, I'm not going to let anything happen, and she's still got my shit, so I'm going along with most things for the moment.

I have some beers, use her as a pillow because she's where my pillow should fucking be, fall asleep. I vaguely remember her asking me about pills; in the morning I find out she was asking my nearly unconscious self which ones were for sleep because she was up until 3AM thinking. She tells me "Now I understand why you can stay up all night just thinking about shit", and I'm kinda thinking "wait, you mean you have never had this problem before"

Woken up at 5:30 in the fucking AM by a call from that classmate, since we've been waking up early all week. She's like "HOW DID THINGS GO. ARE YOU GETTING BACK TOGETHER?" etc., and I'm like "uh, no. no. I'll talk to you this afternoon. no. afternoon.", she finally agrees to hang up, and my ex looks at me like "why was she calling this early?" "we've just been waking up early lately." "I think she likes you. I can see it in her eyes" "Yeah, actually, you're probably right."

Take her for breakfast and leave her at the bus stop, go to wait an hour at school for Chinese class. Chinese teacher says we're the high level class for foreign students, and then starts talking about classical chinese literature, and I'm just like "well shit". Luckily things come down towards the end, but by the end of it I decide I'm skipping the Chinese Language Exam practice test I had signed up for, because fuuuuck more Chinese today.

Classmate isn't responding to texts, so I run some errands on the way home, then just stay at home and clean and shit. Tell a couple of friends outside the country who I hadn't replied to because of the break up about said break up, one of them has yet to reply, the other is the girl I fell for while I was in Japan, and she's like "WHAT?!" at first, and later "Oh, I treat my boyfriend the same way lol. I'm always like 'Fuck you Korean assholes! I hate you!' and stuff lol", I just reply "See, that's why I'm glad you rejected me before I had to deal with any more of your bullshit". We talk for awhile, she seems to change her attitude a bit, I also mention that classmate--very strongly opinionated girl who took a look at my friends on my phone and called most of them ugly; the Japanese girl on the other hand, "She's pretty... just not as pretty as me, right? Right?!".

Japanese girl says "I'd like to have a fight with that bitch"

Before long, classmate replies, talk to her for awhile, she basically wants to meet with her dog, but doesn't want to go to the park (same one mentioned above, which I'll just call Taipei Central Park if I talk about it again so you can remember it) because the dog got fleas there once. On the other hand, many businesses don't accept dogs, so she's just like "screw it, I'll go to your place"

Go pick her up, she comes over, brings adorable dog who honestly I am almost as happy to have over as the girl because 1- I have barely gotten to play with any animals since I came to Asia, which is really weird for someone who grew up always having at least one pet, often more 2- It gives me something to do to seem nice instead of super awkward.

Play with dog for awhile, listen to some music, talk about shit. She brought over a photobook of her cosplays from last year, including for whatever reason bikini shots, so I mean, fucking jackpot. I tell her to give me a copy of this year's book, and she's like "oh, sure.". Hell yes. Towards the end she mentions some anime she likes, and I have no idea about modern anime, download some great Chinese piracy tool and start watching it with her. Sit down next to her, pillow up against the wall, she's like "Why are you so close", scoots away. Later put my arm on her shoulder because fuck it, she's like "hey, don't do that.", I'm like "Hey, who was it that said she would be really happy if I liked her*?!", joke for a bit about her just being happy because she'd get the opportunity to reject me. Ask her a little bit later, "Yeah, okay.", ARM AROUND SHOULDER ACHIEVED. I'm sitting there with this girl, slightly inebriated, her dog on my lap, wondering how the hell my life has gotten this weird. Finish the episode, walk her home, come back stupified and post on DIV because who else am I going to talk to this about.

*referring to a note she wrote me essentially confessing. OOPS DID I LEAVE THAT PART OUT. not that it's got anything to do with my relationship with my ex.

So basically, today I woke up next to my fiancee, had a phone call with my old crush in the evening, and had my arm around my most probable next girlfriend in the evening. How the hell does this stuff happen to me.
