Aks, if it makes you feel any better, Feba is taking law.

    In Mandarin.

So things could be a lot worse.

That sounds like an urban legend.

That definitely sounds challenging. Though I will say that I really miss sleeping. I definitely don't get enough of it.

Oh good, the president has fallen into the trap of Godwin's Law and appeals to emotion and he's barely started his address.

Haha, I know! Fucking Godwined. Good job.

He basically just told us a whole bunch of shit we already knew if we've been keeping up with the news. Not sure why I needed to miss 15 minutes of good TV for that.

I was particularly offended by the appeal to emotion. THINK OF THE POOR LITTLE KIDS GUYS.

Fuck that noise. If that was a reason to lob missiles then we would have exhausted our entire arsenal in Africa years ago. This is not our fight. Let the rest of the world deal with it for once.

Given that NBC weapons are one of the few things the world CAN agree are a step too far, I don't see any reason to start allowing that crap to go. I mean, we lose that, and then we're a step farther away from getting rid of all the other cruelties of war, and war itself.

I mean, yes, it's just as bad to die to a sword as to Sarin, but then the sword is at least slightly less indiscriminate.

The use of chemical weapons is a crime against humanity and is outlawed by the UN. We can't allow the use of them, period. This isn't a "US thing," it's a "World thing."

And I'll be on board when this is actually a "World thing" instead of a "U.S. thing", because that's exactly what it is at the moment: A U.S. thing. Let someone else take the lead on this shit for once. I don't want my country getting involved in other nations' business anymore. We've done too much damage that way already.

If the American public wasn't already so war-weary from a decade of poorly justified wars, I don't think there would be nearly as much debate about this one. At this point we don't trust the government with military power and we don't want to let them use it even for what many would agree is a very good reason. This isn't a case like Libya or Egypt where we can make a difference with drone strikes, supplying arms or non-lethal support. This is going to take boots on the ground and ultimately will lead to another prolonged occupation and more nation-building. Nobody wants to accept that consequence.

Not arguing one way or the other, here, just laying out the situation as I see it.

Somebody around here watches RT, right? I'd love to hear what the Russian media has to say about this, considering Russia has been consistently opposing UN action in Syria, supporting the regime and implicitly the atrocities committed thereby. Do they not accept that crimes against humanity have taken place?

Russia didn't agree at first that there was enough evidence supporting the case that the Assad regime used chemical weapons on innocent civilians. That changed 2 days ago when Russia changed their stance and offered a solution of them taking over Syria's chemical weapons if the US would hold off on launching an offensive. And that's where we stand now.

No, right now it's a Syrian thing that when looking at this problem as a big picture make's it a world thing. The Assad regime gassed over 1000 innocent civilians last month killing men, women, and children. I don't know how anyone can hear about this sensless slaughter and be able to say, "yeah, I'm ok with that, let someone else handle it. Oh no one is??? Ok, I'm cool with that, that's none of our business..." Let's see how many children get killed with their next chemical weapon attack.

                                - - - Updated - - -

"Unknown to Syrian officials, U.S. spy agencies recorded each step in the alleged chemical attack, from the extensive preparations to the launching of rockets to the after-action assessments by Syrian officials. Those records and intercepts would become the core of the Obama administration’s evidentiary case linking the Syrian government to what one official called an “indiscriminate, inconceivable horror” — the use of outlawed toxins to kill nearly 1,500 civilians, including at least 426 children."
