This revised statement is what I agree with (in an acknowledging way. Not agreeing with the terrorism itself.)

I suspect you'd be closer to 15k if posts in the off-topic forums counted. Makes me wonder how many I actually have since I hardly post in FF threads anymore.

I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that posts in the off topic forums don't count toward your post count. I always wondered why, since post counts are so silly to even pay any attention to.

That was when we could change people's forum titles. I think it was to prevent abuse.

Oh yeah, right. Pretty sure that's still the case. I could change it if anyone cared and/or wanted to see post counts skyrocket.

Doesn't have to be just terrorists. Let's say its a serial killer. He has killed 10 young girls and 3 are still missing where authorities believe he was the prime suspect. Police find him and take him in. He admits the other 3 girls were taken by him and are being help captive somewhere. We should imploy any means necessary to ge the information out of this admitted killer to get those 3 other girls home safely. ANYTHING. What if one of those 3 young girls was your daughter?

"Any means necessary" is the slipperiest, slopiest phrase in the English language. Coercive methods need to have strict conditions and scrutiny placed on them or they themselves will degrade human life. Torture, to say nothing about its disputed value in obtaining true and valuable information, is never morally justified. Moreover, before we start treating people like criminals, we need to have strong evidence. "Suspected terrorist" could mean as little as "accused of terrorism" or "emailed the wrong person." The U.S. Government has been lax in obtaining even probable cause against possible terrorists (e.g. TSA searches in violation of the 4th amendment) much less incriminating evidence that proves them guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt.

                          Taskmage;983804 "Suspected terrorist"
Well I stand corrected. I don't condone using those techniques for "suspected terrorists." I'm talking about people that have taken lives admittedly, not suspectedly. I missed the notion of "suspected" in Don Cherry's intial statement. Those that have admitted to taking lives, I support all means necessary to gain information from them that can save lives in the future.

Yeah, there was a traffic jam of edits.

I stand by the statement that torture is neither morally acceptable nor even necessarily effective even in the case of convicted criminals. I take it as axiomatic, and I'm perfectly happy to walk away from this agreeing to disagree.
