Ok, so what does this nation's finest, the US police force, need to do to earn your respect Cid? Wait, let me play this out. Your house is getting broken into, the perps have killed your dad. You Call 911 and are locked in your room pissing your pants. You and your mom have barricaded the door and perp is banging on the door, trying to bash it in. They want whatever you have in that room, and they don't care if they need to kill you or your mom to get it. The police show up because you called. Not because they know you, but because its their job. They barge in the front door, tackle the perp, and save you and your mom. If not for the police, you and your mom would be dead. This is a hypothetical but this shit happens EVERY FUCKING DAY. are you that fucking ignorant you actually need something like this to happen to you for you to decide the police have earned your respect? Or are you going to grow the fuck up and realize these guys put their lives on the line every fucking day? they earn your respect every day they show up to work, the fact you think a policeman hasn't earned your respect makes you a disrespectful fucktard. grow up. realize the liberties that are afforded to us because of the police.

I respect the hell out of police officers and anyone working security. Though I will admit my respect and admiration start to dwindle slightly when it stops being about getting useful information, and begins to tread into bullying and false accusations. That being said, the guy in that video REALLY needed to just shut up and tell them what they needed to know.

Here's the short version Mezlo: I don't believe everyone working in law enforcement is actually out to protect me and there is plenty of behavior documented that supports that suspicion.

It doesn't matter if their line of work requires them to put their life on the line, if someone's a power-tripping asshole abusing their authority then they don't deserve my respect.

the officer in the video was not violating any rights. the douchebag in the car thought he was "owed" an explanation as to why the officer was asking questions, or asking him to do things. he is not owed anything. if he just stfu and answered the questions without being a douche, he'd be shopping with his wife. since he decided he was owed something, he is in jail. it really is quite simple.

I guess I could've been clearer, but I'm not really interested in what's the smartest thing to do. I'm asking if you believe you should unconditionally answer every question an officer asks and that he's owed respect even when he's not doing his job. But for whatever it's worth, you seem to be supposing that answering is the only way to show respect; you can refuse to answer without being rude.

lol, well, ok. the guy in the audio clip wasn't interested in "whats the smartest thing to do either" and he served jail time. you can try and take this wherever you want, but this arguement was based upon the audio clip provided, and the officer in no way was violating this douche's rights. The guy in the audio clip thought he was "owed" something from the officer, which he was not. The fact that he acted like a douche and was disrespectful towards the officers got him well deserved jail time.

You should comply and if they are indeed at fault, take them to trial and prove it, getting them what they deserve, reprimanded, demoted, fired, or jailed. You cant try and play judge and jury on the spot when a cop asks you to do something, this will get you nowhere.
