Yes, but couldn't you say the same about artificially staving off the extinction of a species? Some species are going to go extinct, but every time it happens to something cute and fluffy we all get up in arms about it without stopping to consider whether or not it's something that should be taking place.

I might be mistaken, but I think zoologists discourage intervening with nature. Every time I hear about some conservation effort it's usually an animal whose habitat we fucked up. If it goes extinct all on its own, without us ruining its environment...that's just life.

Fucking lol at one of my team members straight up telling me and the Boss Lady that he broke one of our directives a few nights ago. There are these alerts that only the two of us are allowed to put in the system, the rest of the operators are to tell one of us and we will take care of it when we come in. He was all like, "Well what was I supposed to do if neither of you were here?" and I was like, "Tell them you're not allowed to do it and they'll have to wait for one of us."

Shit's not complicated, I mean come on bro. Then he gets an attitude when Boss Lady agrees with me. Loooool okay son, you're not gonna win this battle.

One thing about Boss Lady is that while she can be a {Mega Bitch}, she will always back me up as long as I'm in the right. If I fuck up though, I'm on my own.

preparing to return to the US next month. helping my fiancee apply to a system called ETSA, because for Merrka, "Visa Waiver" apparently means "Actually you still have to apply online ahead of time". After putting in the information multiple times, with the only help suggested being to try internet explorer or netscape (???), I could still get no information beyond the "INVALID PASSPORT NUMBER" error. Given her passport number was stamped up and down the book, and in multiple visas, including one issued by the US, it was pretty clear there was nothing wrong with the number.

Turns out what it SHOULD'VE said was "Your passport is not an e-passport", because while standard machine readable text passports are acceptable in every OTHER country, and even accepted for other countries on America's visa waiver program list, it turns out they AREN'T accepted for Taiwanese passports. Which means that she now has to take tomorrow as a half day so she can go and apply for a new passport; the only other option would be paying upwards of $160 and waiting a week for a shot at a travel visa.

All this to go visit for two weeks.

Fucking hell, I don't care where you fall on the debate of letting foreigners in to work and live, or how secure you think our borders need to be, this system is just plain broken. I wonder how many billions of dollars in tourist revenue the US loses because people see what a hassle it is just to get into the country, and decide to travel other places instead (also remembering that the only wealthy country nearby to us is Canada, so it's already fairly expensive to travel to the US just due to the oceans).

This was AFTER I landed back in Canada at the airport, before they'd let me leave. Apparently they need to know my Highschool education, which College I attend, how much money I make, where I work, what family I have, how old they are, when I bought my car, how much I pay for it, and what I did in the US (which I can understand the last bit).

(I'd like to believe this was just slightly above what they normally do. I can't see them doing this every time I try to travel.)
