Not necessarily, I mean we are a natural predator. Now granted, if the cause was human urban expansion and not just humans being predators and killing for food/hides/whatever else, I'd be inclined to agree with you. There are surely plenty of species that were made extinct legit-style.

Though I won't deny that the evolving human species and its ever-evolving technology is doing more harm to the planet than good.

I'm not sure I entirely agree. On an emotional level that makes sense to me, but taking a step back humans are just another species in the system.

At this point, the system is at our mercy. If we wanted to destroy it, we could.

It's in our best interest to keep our natural resources in good shape. Since we can't yet predict the long-term repercussions of wiping out a species, regardless of morality it'd be better not to do it.

Yes, but couldn't you say the same about artificially staving off the extinction of a species? Some species are going to go extinct, but every time it happens to something cute and fluffy we all get up in arms about it without stopping to consider whether or not it's something that should be taking place.

I'm not against preserving what we can of the world and its inhabitants, but I feel like this is an aspect of the situation that never gets addressed or even considered.
