Watch Season 2, it makes everything better.
Initially it makes everything a lot worse, then better, then much much worse, then so good you can forgive anything they did before.
All right, I'll give it a shot. But it's going to have to be pretty goddamned amazing at the end to make up for how much I hate Suzaku as a character and all the other bass-ackwards plot decisions they made in those last 4 episodes.

I enjoyed Season 2 a lot more than I did Season 1. The beginning is confusing until episode 2 or so, but it really picks up. Code Geass has been one of my favorite anime shows to date, and I went into it not expecting to like it at all.

I think I bailed three or four episodes in. It was pretty terrible.

I didn't like Code Geass like I wish I would've, the only thing that made me finish season one was just to see how it all panned out. Looking at it from a analytical standpoint, the amount of tactics is genius. But I have to say Death Note hands down is overalll better, like if you were to take that logic and spread it among a whole civilization like Lelouch did, I do say L or Kira or perhaps both could overturn Lelouch easily. But that's just my Otaku talking.

To me the problem is that when it gets to the actual military skirmishes it's interesting and suspenseful, but everything outside of that is pretty bad, and half the cast is just terrible and obnoxious. So I don't have very high hopes for season 2, because if the season 1 ending is any indication they're moving away from military conflicts and politics and more towards drama revolving around Lelouch's, Suzaku's and C.C.'s problems, which I honestly don't care all that much about. And I really wish Suzaku would just die, but I know they're going to rub him in my face 'til the very end.

I don't blame you for jumping ship 3-4 episodes in because episodes 1-2 were cliché as fuck and they didn't give me a satisfying explanation of Lelouch's backstory and motivations until episode 8.

But of course, Suzaku can't die. That would break his Geass.

It does get more about character drama for awhile. It goes much more into LeLouch's family and their motivations, and there is less in the way of tactical engagement and more in the way of geopolitical strategizing. In the last act of the show, you will most likely lose a sense of why any of this is happening, why you should care about the protagonists anymore, and why you should continue watching the show at all. This goes on for an unbearably long time. If you get to this point do not stop until the end. I want to explain, but if I said any more it would most likely ruin it.

They played that for obscene amounts of drama, but I always found it hilarious. "Oh no! I can't die! Woe is me!"

Armando tells Suzaku to kill himself and he's all "I wish . . ."

                Hilarious.

They could have done a lot better with that whole angle. The idea of course being that there are things more important than your own life, but they never build enough empathy for Suzaku or put him in quite the right situation to make it really poignant. The thing with the .. what was it, FREJA? Pretty much a bludgeon.

To be fair, that only means he'll do whatever it takes to stay alive; it doesn't mean he can't be killed. Unless I'm wrong, and the writers are stupider than I thought.

Since you introduced me to Hatoful Boyfriend I'll take your word for it.

Mostly because they can't. The character is utterly hypocritical through and through, critizicing Zero for using "the wrong methods" while he's helping the tyrannical empire that has no problem with killing civilians to get what they want. That and I hate his stupid fucking Matrix moments, because it totally breaks any sense of immersion you might be feeling at the time.

                      It's shown somewhat early in Season 2 that . . .

He's a narrow-minded idealist, which is the worst parts of both idiot and hypocrite.

There were certain characters would could go straight to hell. Regrettably I think most of them end up surviving.
